Info on Biopsy
Hi there,
I have a biopsy scheduled this coming Monday, after receiving ultrasound results today (a few other lumps were noticed apart from the very large, almost the size of a tennis ball that I identified). I didn't get confirmation on whether they were benign, so I have to do a biopsy (which is so expensive for a poor student like me even though my GP claimed it was bulk billed). What is the procedure like? I was told to get someone to drive me home or go on public transport with me, so I'm not really sure why that is necessary or what to expect in general.
Also, how do people deal with the psychological side? I'm 20 years old with no family history (as far as I know off, I didn't grow up with mum) and have been struggling for the past month (mustering up the courage to go to a GP-it didn't help that I had some domestic violence scars on my upper chest, waiting to get an initial consultation, ultrasound, waiting for results and a follow up appointment with GP since she's really busy and only works two days a week etc.). I'm been through some testing times, had a difficult upbringing, family issues, domestic violence, abuse, mental illness and mild cerebral palsy, but this situation is filled with so much uncertainty. I've even avoided telling people what I've been going through, as I fear I may lose certain things and opportunities that I have, which I waited a long time for after everything I've been through . I feel pathetic and selfish but I've feel like a half-dead person (consumed by the situation and inability to experience happiness).

Dear fromrussiawithlove,
Welcome to the community. We are sorry that these breast issues brought you here but glad that you reached out. Here is a link to a page on our main site about the actual Biopsy procedures. Hopefully that will provide some information about what to expect. Most anyone who has waited for the results of a biopsy will say that the uncertainty and not knowing is the worst thing to manage. Our minds tend to try to figure out what will happen so we can try to cope with the outcome but we tend to lean in the direction of the results being worse than better. It sounds like you have had your share fare of trauma and stress and that must make this all the harder. It also sounds like you have risen above a lot of obstacles in your life so remind yourself of that. Mostly try not to focus on the worst case scenario. The chances are that these lumps could well be benign and not worth the worry that you are giving them. Good for you for mustering the courage to get them checked out and for reaching out here. Distraction is key to getting through the rest of the week. Keep us posted on how things go on Monday. We are here for you. The Mods

Thanks so much
I can only hope that I can go through this ordeal regardless of the outcome with similar courage and humility of many other members of the sisterhood awaiting results as well as breast cancer survivors
