So...I have just received a message from Bluebird's (Diane) niece Shannonand maybe others here have too. She has given me her email and also Diane's DH contact info. Please PM me and I will forward to you. She said Diane passed away peacefully on May 22nd surrounded by family and friends just as she wanted. So sad for my friend Diane. I did receive the news at the time while on a trip. I think her niece would really appreciate all of our responses. Thanks.

Diane loved this flower, I don't know where I found it.

Thrifted today without EVEN doing a doc visit. Got a pic that is very ornate. Sounds strange but the frame was plastic. Made to look as the ornate frames of 1900. Odd, very odd. The whole framing was done extremely well. Backing done with a heavy back board, screws(highly unusual,) very solid heavy duty wire holders and connectors(very unusual). The picture in the thrift looked like it would do well in a bordello. But put in my Victorian living room, I think it's found a home.

Second item, a sweet little pewter candlestick. It's a puzzle for sure. Has 3 stamped Makers Marks. It has all the signs of being sand cast. It's weight in such a fashion that it wouldn't be bumped over easily. Avery good characteristic for a candle holder. Drip bowl not big enough for a glass hurricane unless it were quite small. Makers marks of this type are old, but no clue how old. Pewter Maker Marks didn't require the same type of rigid rules as did silver Hallmarks.

But it's found a home. If I want to make it a working candlestick, I can put it on a glass plate with large hurricane over it. It then becomes a working piece and an artifact. A twofer.

I'd do pictures, but the charger for my kindle seems to be missing from it's place> DONNNNNNIE

Sas, mine is semi-permanent. It washes out after about 8 shampoos. I’m going to try purple next. Then maybe the teal. I used to do the chalks but it got to be so messy when it rained or I got hot. And lately, I get hot a LOT so this is a bit more manageable for me.

TaRa, yes the chalk can get messy. I now have totally ___mostly white hair. The colors can be even MORE fun with white hair because they are so stark.

I once went to my sons law office with a couple of blue streaks that matched my blouse. All the young gals were so excited. Son acted proud.versus embarrassed. It was fun b/c I thought he'd be embarrassed. He was so shocked that the gals liked it. Hahaha, Mom was COOL. Who knew.

Very much want to do something radical. I'm bored with the gray and the length. Never stayed this way ever for this long. Always changed styles and lenght. But But....hair doesn't grow fast at my age. Color can make it look lifeless.

The companies haven't kept up with us Boomers. We are flower children of the 60's. I do Not want , nor will I accept being the blue hair permanent tight curl of my mother's generation. I Waaaant excitement.

Best shot I could get of the touchmarks. Three of them. Silvers marks are called Hallmarks. Pewter didn't get the same respect as silver. I'll never find these. Perhaps the Antiques Road show hahahaa..

Couldn't get a picture without the reflection. The frame is plastic, but very ornate. Backed with fiberboard. and screws. The wire holders very fancy. Better word , but can't think of it. Great effort put into making it look expensive. Looks great in the living room with the real antiques. $10

A new home already. The picture above was a wedding picture. The dress on the mannequin to the side is my wedding dress. Unbleached muslin. The large candlestick is my first find in 1969.

Just pulling an all nighter. This is the Christmas tree dress. I designed it and a friend sewed it. It takes about ten minutes to take it off. Underneath the tree is fully decorated. The idea came when the fella's started to complain too much about decorating the tree. Being angry wasn't what Christmas was all about.

Ha where has this Christmas tree dress been all my life? Maybe you could decorate the dress for other times of year like Easter and people's Birthdays.

My ideal Christmas tree would go up and down like a large umbrella, fully decorated.

Hhhaaha Feline Umbrella Yes, pop it open completely dressed pull the string and the lights go on. Your a sewer.right? What my friend did b/c we were making this up as we went along. She made triangles and then reverse sewed the seams. Then added that pull tape in the center of each panel . The problem with the pull strings is over the years they have started to break. It's never been washed. It's put in the dryer for a short time when it comes down.Oddly it doesn't get dusty. I guess because of it's location and it's satin.

WE hung it off the fan in the center of the room to work on it. She told me later she was ready to kill me when I said the tape string stuff needed to go higher about 3 feet. We made a pocket at the top like you would for a curtain and slipped in a wooden ring that was used for needlepoint. The wooden ring b/c it is seriously heavy. The ring is strong enough to hold the weight.

I designed a ceiling holder. Never got around to getting it made. It's held up by a clear plastic hangar. Just a tad tacky. But you don't even notice the hangar unless I point it out.

To me it looks like a ballroom dress.

We kinda have this little ceremony removing it on Thanksgiving. One guy on a ladder and one on each side. I direct Hahaahaaha. Goes back on mid Jan.

Sas - Love the pics! Is that a choker style neckline on your wedding dress?? Gorgeous! Also love the candlestick...pewter is near and dear to my heart. Do you have a idea of its age? You’ve got a great eye and it all looks lovely displayed. Not to mention that funky cool Xmas tree! No needles no decorating and looks great! Cool idea! Great prices...I never find ‘steal deals like that!

Egads I developed a mantra over the years that works well for me 1. if something appeals to you, 2. price is right, 3.you have a use for it, and 4 you've never seen it before.

The little candle stick is intriguing. My instincts say it's very old. On the limb time. I think at least pre 1900. The sand casting is nice , but it isn't perfect. The finish work of rubbing out the small imperfections isn't perfect. A high quality piece wouldn't have these imperfections. It has touchmarks with no imprinted name. That should put it in a specific time. It would if it were silver. I did study pewter at one time, but have forgotten most of it. That was maybe 20 years ago. So this will be like starting all over. The chase. Hahaha

Sas - ahhh the chase lol. What I love is holding an object like the candlestick and wondering who held it before me....maybe over 100 years ago, and all the folks in between. Who was the craftsman that picked it up for the first time...gives me the history willies..in a good way. Nice score girlfriend

Egads, your description is exactly why I thrift. I feel like I'm rescuing things. Then learning the history is very fun. Then turning around and gifting it, is way fun too. When possible I let them pick their own piece(s). Then I watch their eyes. They bond.

Sas - so true @ bonding! Ever visit a historic site and feel like you're part of the woodwork? The 'high water mark' in Gettysburg PA draws me and Boone Hall plantation in Charleston feels like home. Weird, seeing that I’m Canadian....or I’m just weird lol.

Oh I get that feeling when I walk Williamsburg. It just draws me in, like I can envision it back in the day. Being an east coast gal, I found the landscape in Colorado and Wyoming overpowering when you think how long it took the mountains to get to the height they are and gorges/canyons to be cut. And knowing you are on a caldera in Yellowstone and the destruction that took place the last time it went off leaves me speechless. That trip had such a calming effect on me.

Junie and Shep think of the two of you often. Hope all is coming along for you.

Jaymeb, you asked about Patty. She was in the hospital but is now home. Hospice is managing her pain meds. Here is a link to her thread so you can check in on her. https://community.breastcancer.org/forum/8/topics/834945?page=109#idx_3251

Been busy since family went back to Japan. Taking hubby to the doctors and tests and a couple of appointments for me thrown in there. Had to have our roof recoated and the bathroom skylight fixed as a pane of glass slipped out. Luckily, it didn't break. Painting the outside done, inside have a couple of rooms to do as I know the color I want. The rest will have to wait until I can make that decision since I will have to live with it for a while. Next project will be to get the rest of my photos in order so my kids won't go "who the heck are those people" when it comes to the past ancestors and work some more on family genealogy.

Egads, I love your sense of humor. You are a natural!

Sas, glad you are thrifting again. It's been awhile hasn't it? You get such good finds.

Lover has been quiet. Is she ok?

David Baldacci's new book is calling so I'll say night, night ladies and good morning feline.

Hi Kathy, not so much non thritfing as not finding something---rare-----I think I have found something with this candle holder that is rare. Spent hours today. The base goes back may be several hundred years. But the handled doesn't. A puzzle. I just love this little piece. Worked on it many hours. It has perfect hand balance for someone walking through the night. All five fingers are engaged. It's a holding of the handle. What's unique is that it supports the whole hand.. five fingers and hand

I looked at hundreds of candle thingy's today........ nothing supported this candle. I'm sure,,I have something very old.

On a happier note, I only have two treatments left before I get a break

Kath - Williamsburg is near and dear to my heart too! Glad I made you chuckle. :)

Sas - I hope you weren't planing on 'offing' someone with that candlestick holder!! I don't care what kind of grip it has....stay away from Ms. Peacock AND the library! We can't afford your bail! Btw..how did shopping and eating go today? Did you tow the line or am I gonna have to track down a holder of my own? ;)))))

Mommy - yay to 2 treatments left! Send the heat up here...I'm damp and cold! Can't tell you how jealous I am of some temps I'm reading thru the threads!
