edited June 2018 in Not Diagnosed But Worried

Hi.  I had a round growth on the top of my thigh, not inner thigh.  It was round and was like thick and slightly raised.  But it started to get bigger so I went to the Dermatologist.  The area is now 1 inch wide and very thick raised skin like a plaque still growing in a roundish shape with a few a few "arms" under the thick skin on the outer area.  It started about 6 months ago, and I didn't think much of it until it started to grow outward.

So she does a "shave" biopsy, a month later she gets the results and says "metastatic carcinoma".  I also had a mammo 3 months ago that was clean.  So I am really worried and can't wait for my Oncology appt. in 2 days.  Like everyone I've been combing the internet trying to find a picture that looks like this thick skin area and nothing comes close.  I did read that metastatic carcinoma is most likely from the breast, so I'm assuming breast cancer.

Maybe I'm jumping the gun.  It's hard being in limbo.  I was very grateful to find this forum and be able to read about others' journeys and how some good attitudes have come from it.  I want to have a good attitude as well and continue my life as it is for as long as I can.  No one knows how long .  I'm trying to be prepared.  But I do feel alone.

The wait is the hardest. Just know there are so many more options for breast cancer patients now adays no matter the stage. This is a wonderful site for support.

Waiting is so hard, the unknown that we have no control over! Having a site like this hopefully helps you get through the long days of waiting. Just know that others care and feel for what you are going through. Good luck

I have never heard that most metastatic cancer comes from a breast cancer site. Did your doctor suggest this? There are many other cancers that could cause metastasis. Since you had a clean mammo only 3 months ago, i would tend to think this didnt arise from the breast.

I don't think I can remember a single woman here who first presented with breast cancer as skin mets.

I''ve done hours of reading on the net.  Every time I type in "metastatic carcinoma", I get loads of info on breast cancer like that would be the most likely source.   Also it would be rare for metastatic cancer to present on the skin first.  I am as confused as anyone here.  I hope it's not metastatic anything but I don't want to sit in denial.  I'm wondering if the dx had a word left out.  The biopsy took a month to come back.  I am grasping.  Hopefully I'll know more tomorrow.

Yeah, i think there is definitely information missing. Any Google query of "cancer" "carcinoma" "skin" and "metastatic" is going to bring you to breast cancer, especially of you also frequent women's sites.(It's freaky how much internet search engines know about us!) There are skin cancers and metastatic skin cancers which do not arise from breast cancer. However, it would be highly unusual for a breast cancer to lie undetected and then pop out on your leg like this. Something else is going on, i think.

Thanks, mustlovepoodles!  (I have a standard)

You have a good point about these search engines giving results based on past browsing.  I agree this scenario is highly unusual.  Hopefully tomorrow's appt can shed some light on this.  In the meantime, this is a very good forum and I'm learning a lot.

I  saw the oncologist today.  He said he felt a lump in my breast so next week I have an xray, PET scan and MRI.  All I read is that metastasis to skin seems to translate to a poor prognosis.

I'm glad this forum is here.

Usually a biopsy results are not just "malignant carcinoma." What kind of cells were identified by the biopsy?

The derma last week told me "metastatic carcinoma".  She wrote in the report "possible breast CA" or words to that effect.

So the oncologist examines me and feels a lump in my breast and orders a bunch of tests.  So I'm R/O breast CA with metastasis to thigh.

I myself look it up online and see that it's a poor prognosis.

    Thanks for replying.
