I found out recently I have a family history of breast cancer.I am concerned because I have found a lump in my right breast.I am also experiencing nipple changes and a full feeling in that breast along with an itching sensation. This is the same breast I had biospy on many yrs ago. That was negative.Naturally I am concerned.I will be following up with my doc.Is family history an important factor.Thank you .

family history can be an important factor. When you see your dr you need to make sure you tell him/her about the family history. If you are sent for imaging, make sure to tell them too. Depending on how close the relationship is you may qualify for genetic testing. Testing positive doesn’t mean you will get cancer, only that you have a higher risk. Just the same, a negative result does not mean you won’t get cancer, just that you don’t have a higher risk than the general population Hoping it’s just a benign change!
