Needing some reassurance
Hi Everyone! I'm new here as of today. I'm needing a little reassurance and experience. My daughter who just turned 42 has found a solid lump near her nipple. She has had three screening mammograms in the past three years. Two years ago, she was diagnosed with what I think were Fibroadenomas in one of her breasts. She couldn't remember the name the doctor told her. But from her description of them and what the doc said, this seems reasonable. They did find a 1 cm lump in the area where this new lump is two years ago. He told her it would never turn into cancer and that it might grow in size. If it got uncomfortable, then it could be removed. The NP that saw her yesterday said the lump my daughter found last Sat was in the same area and she thought it was the same lump that has now grown to 2-3 cm but was no 100 per cent positive. So she is scheduled for another ultrasound next Thursday. Does anyone have any experience with these

should I move this post to another area

I do have a friend who had a fibroadenoma for many years. Right after she turned 40 it started to grow suddenly. The doctors feared hidden cancer within, took it out but turned out to be completely benign.

I've had multiple fibroadenomas, some were removed b/c I was planning on having kids and hormones/pregnancy can cause them to increase in size. Now that I don't plan on having any other kids, the ones that I have are just being watched. Fibroadenomas have characteristics that they can readily see on ultrasound and decipher easier with on ultrasound that can look more suspicious on mammogram so they're doing the right thing by having her get an ultrasound.

Thanks so much for the info. As a mom, I’m more worried about this than my daughter. They originally found the 1cm Fibroadenoma right after she turned 40. She actually was referred for an ultrasound for another area in her breast that was fibrocystic disease, so the Fibroadenoma showed up then. My daughter said she could barely feel it when the doc pointed it out. This bigger lump was found in the same area and my daughter was the one to feel it. She had her regular mammogram at age 41. No changes. And now this...two weeks before she was to have her next yearly mammogram. The NP wasn’t overly concerned believing that the Fibroadenoma has just gotten bigger. Therefore, she ordered the ultrasound. I should mention that my daughter has lost 10 pounds in the last year going through a divorce. Maybe the weight loss caused her to feel the lump

I had fibroadenomas back in my early 20's,(years apart) popped out of nowhere. Was told they could grow due to hormones etc. I opted, because I am such a nervous nellie, to remove them. They were indeed fibroadenomas. I would guess it is possible since she has lost weight things could show, or be felt that might not have been able to before. She's getting her next mammo right?..Hopefully the will do another ultrasound after mammo and put her fears to rest.

Thanks for the responses. beach2beach, she is due for her annual mammogram this coming Friday. She is 42 and has has clear mammograms since she started screening at 39. This bigger lump appeared out of nowhere last week. It’s in the same area as the Fibroadenoma that was discovered 2 years ago. Breast ultrasound is this Thursday. Hopefully, it will show the prior Fibroadenoma has just grown. That’s what we’re hanging onto

Wanted to update everyone. My daughter went in for her 3-d mammogram and ultrasound. Apparently, what she had two years ago was a cyst and not an Fibroadenoma. The lump she found this time around was the same one that had grown quite a bit from two years ago. The radiologist gave her today’s results on the spot. It was bigger and harder to the touch. He said he could drain it, but she declined. But he called it a classic simple cyst. Thanks for all the prayers and messages. I am one grateful mama
