Under 40 - treatment decisions (RT)

I'm 37 years old, just diagnosed with DCIS. I'll be having a lumpectomy (wide excision) and have seen two surgeons who both recommended a course of RT. I'm not keen on rad but I understand it is necessary to reduce the risk of recurrence/new invasive cancer in that breast. Just wondering if anyone who had RT under 40 has had any lasting health issues from the rad, recurrences, other ways it impacted your life. I've spoken to a couple women IRL but they were all over 40. Only interested in hearing from those <40 at Dx.

TIA for any advice!

Hi L0stris and welcome to Breastcancer.org,

We're so sorry to hear about your diagnosis, but we're really glad you found us. You're sure to get great information and support here soon! We know treatment decisions can be difficult, but we know others will be happy to weigh in with their thoughts and experiences.

You may also want to post in the Radiation Therapy - Before, During, and After forum asking for those under 40 who have undergone radiation therapy to weigh in.

    We hope this helps!
