Hard painless lump that appeared suddenly
Hello all, I’m a 36 (almost 37)yr old single mom that found a hard lump in right breast 2 days ago. I saw my pcp yesterday who said that he wasn’t concerned by what he felt and thinks it is a cyst. Both breasts have several cysts, only known from an ultrasound report, never any palpable. Regarding the u/s, the report is from 10/17 stating the right breast has several small cysts from 3-7 mm scattered throughout & that some are slightly complex. I’m not sure how long This lump has been there but it feels pretty hard to me, not real round & it doesn’t hurt. I cant get an ultrasound for over a week and I’m not convinced it’s a cyst. I think the dr may have just been saying that to calm me down bc I was very upset. Why would a cyst suddenly become palpable now after being there at least 8 months? My period is due any day now but I’ve never had this occur with other periods. Does it sound like a cyst or something else anyone might have had? I’m very stressed out and worried sick. Thank you. As far as moving the ultrasound date, that’s the soonest the breast center had available, a week from tomorrow or 9 days after I saw my dr..I’m not sure if he is aware I have to wait this long.

Although it feels like an emergency to you, it really isn't. Nine days is not long at all for an appointmentI often wait weeks for my appointments. I had a screening mammogram in November and they didn't get me in for the diagnostic one until February at a very busy clinic.

I just worry because I don’t know how long this lump has really been there and I have no idea what to expect except the worst. I’ve been so depressed, scared, and can barely eat since I found it. I look at my kids and wonder how much time I have with them. Everything I read points to bad news. I’m really not sure how I’ll get through it if it turns out to not be a cyst. I don’t really have friends and my parents have enough of their own issues. I would think the sooner it’s dealt with, the better.

MelissaDallas is right, but you can ask the breast center if it can call you if it has a cancellation before your scheduled appointment. In the meantime, don't self-diagnose. Most lumps are benign, especially at your age. And, stop wondering how much time you will have with your kids. Most breast cancer is very treatable; either way, I predict you will be with them a long time. ((Hugs))

Thank you. It’s just terrifying. It’s hard, painless, and upper outer quadrant. That all points to bad..stupid google. I feel like my “relatively young” age will work against me and make it more aggressive. I’m a mess...

I would suggest you stop trying to diagnose yourself via Dr. Google. He's not very helpful at this stage of the game. Go binge watch something on Netflix. Or, do something fun with your kids. Take a bubble bath. Whatever. If you're having extreme anxiety, call your general practitioner and ask for a small supply of an anti-anxiety drug like Xanax or Ativan. ((Hugs))

I think I’ve got it all out for the night. I hope so otherwise I won’t be sleeping. I have an appointment with my gyn in the morning. Hopefully she will offer her opinion as well even if it doesn’t get me in sooner for imaging. Thank you again, it’s hard having no one to talk to.

I just saw my gyn and she also thinks it is just a cyst. She was very reassuring and I feel a little better. Most importantly, the office was able to move the ultrasound to tomorrow morning. So if it is bad, I should know tomorrow. Hopefully it will be fine. Tomorrow will be stressful but at least I feel like I can breathe a little.

I'm glad they're being responsive.
