Sensitive scalp pain

I had my first round of chemo on June 4th. Over the last few days my scalp will hurt in places if pressure is applied, like laying on it or someone touches it. I haven't had any hair loss yet but I don't know if this could be a sign that it's going to start?

My scalp got sore about 2 weeks after my first chemo and I noticed my hair falling out when I ran my fingers through it. It felt like your scalp feels when you have a very tight ponytail and you take out the scrunchie. I ended up getting my hair clipped to 1/8" the following day. It was just too uncomfortable to brush my hair.

I started shedding on day 19 after my first AC chemo (last Nov). My scalp did feel sore in places, as if my hair had been pulled back in a tight ponytail for too long. After a few days the soreness was so annoying & uncomfortable that I cut my hair as short as I could with scissors then shaved the rest with an electric razor. Immediate relief from the scalp pain.

Thanks pingpong! That sounds almost exactly what's happening with me. I got my hair cut really short before I started chemo and it will hurt in places the comb hits my scalp too.

Same here. The scalp pain coincided with the hair loss starting. I had my head buzzed when the loss got to be too much - practically and emotionally. The pain was so much better afterwards. I think having longish hair, with the weight of it, was making that soreness worse.

Weird scalp pain just before and during hair loss is completely normal as you are discovering! It is quite the achy hurt that eventually goes away. I still had the pain even after my head was shaved. Some do, some don't. But now that I am 6.5 years out from chemo, I can still vividly remember that scalp pain! ALL MY BEST to you!

My scalp got INCREDIBLY sore about three weeks after my first round of AC, and it coincided exactly with the start of my hair falling out. Four or five days later, my hair was all gone, and then the pain went away.

I wasn't told that it would be painful, only that I "may experience some sensitivity," and even that was buried in a handout, not actually explained to me by a doctor or nurse, so it was a shock to me when it started, it was so bad that I couldn't bear for anything to touch my head for days, even just taking a shower was excruciating, despite the fact that I'd cut my long hair quite short by then (not buzzed off, but cropped very short). At least it didn't last too long, unpleasant as it was.

So sorry that you have to go through this, too. It's no fun, but at least you're not alone, we're all here with you. :)

Thanks everyone! Looks like I've got something to look forward too soon. Glad I've already gotten my wig!

When I woke up this morning there was a good bit of hair on my pillow and I when I washed it a ton of it came out. I noticed that it didn't hurt at all anymore so I think the on coming hair loss had something to do with it.
