edited June 2018 in Waiting for Test Results

On May 23rd, I had a vacuum assisted core biopsy. Initially, I called and was told it was b9, then 3 hrs later, the Radiologist called and said the results we discordant with what she saw and she was referring me to a BS. I saw the BS on June 1st and she agrees that the mass needs to be removed. I am finally having it removed this Thursday. I am so over not having an answer and I won't have the path results before this time next week, at the earliest. Going nuts here.

Here's my question, how much does language in procedure scheduling matter? Everything I read says that removal of a b9 mass is called an excisional biopsy, but a malignant mass is a lumpectomy. My BS has the surgery in two days classified as a lumpectomy. I have been going back nd forth for over 6 weeks now. Am I driving myself crazy over language?

Now, they've called to push back the date AGAIN! Looks like now it's possibly Tues 6/26. They now want to do it at the hospital as an outpatient rather than the stand alone surgery center. I'll know shortly.

Well after all day on the phone, I got it moved back to tomorrow. Results late next week, I hope.

They are used interchangeably. Sometimes they call it a partial mastectomy too. When I consider the definitions, I think of an excisional biopsy vs. lumpectomy is that one is removing a mass and the other is removing a mass with a known cancer with the goal of clear margins, but again, they tend to be used interchangeably, especially in coding for insurance..

Hi, I'm actually asking a question for my mother. She had a lumpectomy 20 years ago. Dermatologist found a lump/leison very close to the skin surface on that same breast.

Biopsy came back as cancer but she used the word metastatic. Doesn't that only mean when it has traveled to another part of the body? We go for

PET scan on thursday and she's so so frightened. Any reply will be appreciated.
