I had recurrence about 9 months after finishing chemo/rads for stage 2 BC (3 pos nodes). I had a mast, more chemo, oopherectomy and am on an aromatase inhibitor and have been NED for a year.

The recurrence was in the form of a tumor at my scar line near the axilla, some nodules (not nodes) in the axilla area and some presumed spread (diagnosed by PET) to mediastinal nodes. I had Taxotere and Xeloda the second time around (AC and T the first time around).

I hope you get a plan quickly and get on the road to fighting this crap so you can get back to a more normal life. Hugs,

Recurrence in Jan 07, just had surgery to remove 2cm tumor and five nodes. One node that was 1.2 cm adjacent to the tumor was affected. Four other were clear. Margin clear too. This is my third time with BC. First in 2002,left breast, was on TAC, second time in 2004, right breast had Taxotere and Carboplatin. This time Chemo not known yet. Will meet with Onoc Dr. on Mar 1st 07. The recurrence was near axilla. Will have radiation too.

ZAR and Ellen, thinking of both of you, hope you do just great and get this behind you.

Paula -- thank you. The 3rd time around is very difficult. Many "What if" & "why" flash in mind, and worry about future. Dr. mentioned using Taxotere and Xeloda, I don't know the side effects and effectiveness.

Taxotere/Xeloda did well for me, but it was tough at times.

My worst problem was hand/foot syndrome, which CAN get bad with Xeloda and apparently was exacerbated with the addition of the Taxotere. BUT there's much excitement about the symbiotic effectiveness of the two, and, well, I survived (after some dose adjustments of the Xeloda) and that's what counts! I've been off chemo for a year now and still NED. All the hand/foot stuff is way behind me.

    Best of luck,
    Paula
