Saw a breast surgeon

Hi friends, I hope you can give me some inputs. Today, I saw a breast surgeon after multiple breast ultrasounds and mri with contrast. None of my reports say that I have a cyst but it is a mass needing to be biopsed. So the radiologist could not biopsy it due to having trouble with visualization of the mass & referred me to a breast surgeon. But the surgeon said that based on his physical assessment it is more likely a fibrocystic breast. He said there is nothing needs to be done other than cutting down on coffee and taking more of vit E.My question here is that wouldn't mri or ultrasound be able to report the mass as fibrocyst instead of reporting it as possible carcinoma?

If that we me, I would probably get a second opinion. Did the BS suggest a follow up in 3 or 6 months?

He kind of said it’s not really necessary to repeat the mri and but said I could repeat it. I don’t know anything anymore. Kind of stuck in one place. I’m kind of exhausted from the whole thing emotionally. Not sure if anything will change from getting another opinion. I feel like they all will say the same things.

was the attempted biopsy an ultrasound guided one or mri guided one?

    Hi Lula73,

It was ultrasound guided biopsy. The radiologist said that it was probably benign since he couldn’t visualize it at that time and recommended to follow up with mri and if it still shows then do the mri guided biopsy. But that’s like another 6 months. That’s why my pcp sent me to a breast surgeon but then at the end I left the surgeon’s office to hear that I have a fibrocystic breast. I don’t even know if he can just diognose it just like that when none of my report says it’s a cyst. I guess they are the experts at the end.

nope he can’t. He can only say what he thinks it is or what the probability is that it’s not cancer. I’m very proactive about things like this, so I would ask PCP to order an mri with biopsy. But that’s just me.
