Savi radiation with triple negative

Options

Has anyone had radiation using Saving device for triple negative? My surgeon oncologist said this was good but radiation oncologist suggested also doing 16 treatments external to cover lower lymph nodes. I'm stage 1b grade 3. IDC 2 mms with Dcis 12 mms. Just wondering what others think.

Lovemyyorkies, I don't have an answer for you as far as triple negative goes, but I'll bump this thread back to the top for others to see, and hopefully they can give you specific feedback. Have you thought about a second opinion from a different center or talked with your surgeon about the radiologist's opinion and whether or not the surgeon checked the other lymph nodes? Perhaps they can get together to discuss your options. I had SAVI but not TN and there are several threads, if you search, about the SAVI process if you have questions about SAVI treatment itself. All the best. Ceanna

Both my surgeon and radiation oncologist discussed this together. Surgeon oncologist adamant says 5 day is enough. Radiation oncologist recommends 2 day with savi and 16 external. Just confused on which way is best to beat this

Hi lovemyyorkies, I wish I had an answer for you. You seem caught between two different, strong, opinions. Maybe you should try for a third opinion or call around and see if other treatment centers in your area have any treatment option recommendations for TN. There are different types of brachytherapy--SAVI being one, and others include MammoSite or institial (multiple catheters). LIke I mentioned, I have no background on triple negative, but I know SAVI is often used in estrogen positive, early stage. I see you list Stage 1b, grade 3. Are you scheduled for chemo also?

Sometimes you just have to go with your gut and with the trust you place in the doctor recommending. Sorry, that doesn't help you make the decision, but I do think you need to feel good about whatever option you choose. Does your breast center have a nurse navigator you can talk with? Maybe they could help you sort out the options. All the best to you. Ceanna

Edited to add: Have you posted this question in any of the triple negative threads here? Perhaps you'd get replies from others with TN experience.

Thanks for taking time to answer. Talked with surgeon today. States it's DCIS with micro invasion and not true triple negative. So I'm going with 5 day radiation starting Monday. I have many prayers going up so we'll pray this is the right decision.
