hi everyone.

Have my surgery set for next Tuesday 18th. Still don't have full pathology report so I don't have a stage yet...uggh

Any advice on surgery. What it's like after. Starting to get pretty scared. They are doing a partial mastectomy, is that the same as a lumpectomy?

Thanks everyone for always being there :

    krysym,

Yes a lumpectomy is the same as a partial mastectomy. You may want to check out Breastcancer.org main site under surgery -> lumpectomy. A lot of information there.

Also check out the topic Toradol here:

    https://community.breastcancer.org/forum/73/topics...

Toradol may reduce the chance of breast cancer recurrence.

You won’t know the stage until after the lumpectomy, particularly if they’re looking at a lymph node. The surgery is pretty simple—not much of a recovery.

Path report comes after the surgery then you will know the stage.

I had a lumpectomy. No problem during or post-surgery.

    Good luck!

There is a forum on here called Lumpectomy Lounge, everyone in it has had a lumpectomy.

The surgery on the breast is not too bad, the node removal site hurts worse...but it's doable. The surgeon office should provide you a list of what happens - dye injection, wire guide, etc...

Suggest easy on & off clothing, front button shirt makes it easy to get your arm in. Fill your pain med script, even if you only need it a day or two. Take it easy afterwards even if you feel great. Suggest a small pillow or a travel blanket to roll up so your seat belt don't hurt you. A lot of women suggest a front zip bra. I bought 3, slept in it that night but I'm small breasted and truly didn't need it. But if your larger breasted, you don't want a lot of movement happening and will need one.

Check out the Lumpectomy Lounge. And best of luck to you for an easy recooperation from your surgery!

    Krysm,

The hardest thing for me was not drinking water. Not eating before midnight was not a problem. So I had them change it to the morning when it was first scheduled for the afternoon. I never used the pain meds, but I got them before the surgery just in case. I used Tylenol. The node removal site hurt more for a longer time. Even if you feel like moving around, be careful b/c you can easily put unwanted pressure on the wound and it may open. The skin in this area is very delicate. Other than that, the surgery was easy, and recovery is pretty fast. Good luck!

    Thanks everyone!

Surgery yesterday. Feeling pretty good today. Finally got full pathology of biopsy and ER/PR+ HER2- , still not overly sure what all that means, but I know it's good. Now to wait again lo

    Krysm,

That is awesome. Glad everything went well. The pathology is good, too. The ERPR positive means your BC will react well with the anti-hormone meds, and HER2 - means it's not as aggressive. Now stay in bed and watch a lot of TV. You will feel well enough to get up and do things but the less you move your arm, the faster it will heal. Take care!

    thank you nonomimi.

Have to say, I'm feeling a little more settled now. Not so scattered.

And yes, Netflix and Iare going to be spending some time together!
