Mirena IUD?

I do not have Mirena in, but when I could no longer take the pill, I went to see my OB about whether it made sense. He told me forget it...no way. The reason is that I have to take tamoxifen, which can cause uterine cancer. One sign of cancer is irregular bleeding. But a Mirena can also cause irregular bleeding. He told me he didn't want to be doing unnecessary biopsies and putting me through worry just because he couldn't tell if irregular bleeding was from the Mirena or because something else was going on in my uTerus. reviving this thread to see if this is still happening. After I had LCIS DX, I got switched to Mirena IUD. Then got ER+/PR+ LC. I've answered the question 100 times that I have a Mirena IUD. No one has blinked an eye and I'm at a major cancer research hospital now. What is going on? I've had this thing in more than a year and contacted my gyn onc yesterday about a different problem connected to it - I think.

One more thing to put in the worry sack, I guess

i know this was posted yonks ago but i just came across it while googling if the mirena can cause swollen lymph nodes,i found some people have had swollen nodes and the mirena but none (yet) to my extent,i have about 20odd palpable nodes from groin,axillary and neck to which made me go in panic mode as i had a abnormal smear to which iv just had treatment for and 4weeks ago my axillary ones decided make an appearence too then 3weeks after that a lump in my Lbreast (which is not a LN) im waiting off a call from breast surgion tomoz to hopefully have it removed as he done a blind biopsy but results was not enough cells. It will be interesting to know now iv had my coil removed (due to having a lletz) to see if my nodes go away and hopefully the coil has caused a b9 lump in breast too. Im glad iv had it removed even of good results,i dont want to risk anything. This was my 2nd coil,first one was a dream,this time how ever none stop bleeding/spotting,headaches,sore breasts.i agree with a lot of ladies if the hormones stay down there then how come we suffer with these side affects no where near?!

my ob/gyn told me that there was no scientific evidence that the mirena caused my BC however my Oncologist said to get it removed (I only had it for 4 weeks it was my “new” one after my 5year one expired) I kept it in the entire time I went through chemo. As soon as chemo was over I had it removed.

Since I was ER+ and PR + and HER2 + I wanted to eliminate anything that might have fed my cancer. The mirena has progesterone so I wanted it out.

I am now 3 weeks on tamoxifen. I was 41 when diagnosed I just turned 42 and also have young kids

PR+ and synthetic systemic progesterone don’t mix. The amount of progesterine mirena emits is very low and vastly stays local in the uterus (Mom-systemic). The latest studies state mirena is good to keep in if you’re going to do tamoxifen therapy as mirena helps reduce the amount of uterine lining thickening and seems to have a protective effect when it comes to uterine cancer developing which is one of the risks of being on tamoxifen. My GYN said mine had to go, but my MO firmly stated that it stays due to this reason.
