Rash on Breast

Hi Everyone,

I am 27 years old, and I’ve had this rash on my aerola, just around the nipple for over a month now. It has been itchy and i have experienced what felt like pain behind it. It was never been raised or scabby, just red, almost looks flush to my skin. I went to the dr just 4 days after it appeared, The dr first prescribed the over the counter anti fungal for a week. That didn’t clear it up, then tried the steroid cream, and again helped but didn’t clear it up. I am now on the second round of stronger anti fungal and antibiotic cream.

It does seem to look better, but the “redness” comes and goes. The itchy is there anymore, but has some dryness, again not crusty or raised or anything. My dr sent me for a mammogram and ultrasound because it’s not going away, and those looked all normal. But they did put In a referral for the breast specialist.

Does this sound like any symptoms of Pagets or am I dealing with a skin issues? I’m getting frustrated I have no answers. Thank you

    Hi Amyoung7 -

Your symptoms sound similar to mine. I also tried over the counter creams and prescription steroid creams to no avail. Mammogram and ultrasound were also negative. Pagets can only be diagnosed by a punch biopsy. Your breast surgeon should recommend this but you can also go to a dermatologist to have this done. It may just be a skin condition but the biopsy will give you piece of mind. Let us know how it goes.
