Not diagnosed .. not worried.. yet
I'm 45 years old and had my first mammogram a few years ago (a couple years late) when my dear cousin lost her life to breast cancer at 41 years old. We were born 3 days apart.. and when she died, I scheduled a mammogram in her honor. After the mammogram, I needed a diagnostic and ultrasound, but in the end, they were classified as benign and It wasn't recommended I do regular mammograms for high risk patients. My PCP told me it wouldn't be horrible if I did my mammogram at Q2-3 years being that I was considered low risk.
So after my yearly well woman in September of last year my doc said it's time for a routine mammogram again, which I scheduled. Like the first mammogram, I was brought in for a diagnostic after, which said, 'likely benign' redo in 6mo.
I want to also share that with my normal yearly work up(along with this mammogram), my hydroxy vit D levels were severely deficient .. doc ordered OTC supplements which I didn't take very seriously at the time.
Several months later, I'm constantly getting sick and fatigued... another vit d hydroxy is taken and my deficinacy is now critically low.. I am now taking supplements and feeling much better!
Last week it was time to do my 6mo follow up diagnostic mammogram. I got a message stating that the radiologists want to biopsy the 'new micro calcifications' to rule out cancer (says most likely benign)
And I'm not overly worried about cancer.. but when you put the new 'microcalcifications' and my sudden and severe D deficiency (5.2 in April .... it makes me wonder if there is a correlation here..

Mjmoon,
I am sorry you are here. I was severely deficient in Vitamin D, too. And later at the mammogram, was Dx with BC. I hope this does not happen to you. I will be praying for you.

Thanks so much for your reply. Are there any other reasons my vit D would become so critically low? I mean, I hate the sun so that’s shouldn’t be anything new! Lo
-
My vitamin D has tested low a few times. I started drinking more milk, and getting a bit more sun in winter and that helped. I think it's not unusual. It can contribute to depression, so I'd pay attention to the docs and take the supplements
-
It definitely contributed to my fatigue and lowered immunity.. I hadn’t believed that it was that important a nutrient until I was so deficient, and that once my supplements were working, how amazing the difference in my well being changed.

Vit d deficiency can be caused by limited sunlight exposure, having dark skin, aging (kidney doesn’t process as well and gastrointestinal issues such as IBS/IBD, Crohns and colitis. Do any of those apply to you?
-
I have never had IBS or other conditions that would make Me at higher risk for depleded vit d or decreased sun exposer.
In fact, there have been little to no changes in sun exposure for me...
I have pale skin!!!
-
Yeah, I saw that from your pic lol...I have a friend that is very pale but has 50% Jamaican blood, so I thought I’d include. Perhaps your avoidance of sun has added up over the years. I’m the same way, not a fan of the sunand ended up with D deficiency.
-
I'm 100% Irish ... ; but you’re probably right about my avoidance of the sun. SE Texas sun is a torture device!

I received a call from the breast center of my doctors clinic (Kelsey-Seybold)...
My 6mo follow-up warranted a biopsy to rule out cancer. Birads 4.
It's a cluster of 'new microcalcifications' at 6 o'clock .. heterogeneous density at the same location...
The clinic scheduled me for an appointment when thE breast specialist, to answer question prior to the biopsy..
They still said this is a ‘routine’ thing and most of the time not cancer..
That doesn’t stop me from thinking of the million things that can happen between now and then
-
MJMOON,
When are you going to see the specialist and do the biopsy?
-
Monday the 18th in the morning and the sterostatic (sp?) Biopsy is scheduled for the afternoon)..
