Just Diagnosed and 15 weeks Pregnant
Hello Ladies,
Sorry to be here but so thankful i found this group.
I've been through a rough year. Now the worst news of all, I have IDC Breast Cancer while 15 weeks pregnant. Im 30 years old with a 20 month old daughter.
I've been sent to the University of MD to work with an oncologist whose experienced with treating pregnant patients with breast cancer. After meeti g with her i do feel a lot better about not having to terminate my pregnancy while receiving the best care for both baby and myself.
I just got my initial pathology report and if you ladies could help me interpert it that would be much help.
Report:
A: Needle Biopsy right breast subareolar mass: IDC, Elston Grade 2 (tubules 3/3, nuclei 2/3, mitoses 1/3) at least 1.0cm in greastest deminsion
B: Needle core biopsy right axillary mass: Apparent lymph node with metastic carcinoma and extracapsular extension
C: Needle core biopsy right breast upper outer quadrant calcifications: IDC, elston grade 2, (tubules 3/3, nuclei 2/3, mitoses 1/3), at least .5cm in greatest dimension intermixed with in situ ductal carcinoma, solid type with low grade nuclei and microcalcifications.
My oncologist said at this point with a postive lymph node im at least stage 2. However im aware that can chage after surgery depending on the amount of lymph nodes effected. Also, my breast ultrasound says 2.0 cm however it feels bigger than two centimeters. According to my report does this also mean its more than one lump? One near the areola and the other upper outer part of my breast? They biopsied 3 areas. Two areas in breast and under my arm.
I am also er/pr + but HER2 is ++ therefore i have to take the fish test. My mom was diagnosed with bc at 40 over 15 years ago. Im praying for a good out come such as hers since all i hear about is this 5 year survival rate.
The plan so far is surgery (masectomy) in the upcoming week or 2, i meet with the surgeon next Tuesday. Then chemo, then inducing labor at 35 weeks and starting radiation.
Another question i have is the cancer stage link i found here. It states your stage can change based on grade, her2, and er/pr.
I am preparing myself for the battle of my life, but the toughest soldiers get the biggest battles right? I have a great support group and feel even better after reading so many of your inspirational stories.

Hi Lovelyleo,
Sorry to hear you have to go through this while you are pregnant. I'm glad to hear you are able to see someone who specializes in working with pregnant ladies. We have a thread in which a radiologist will answer your questions on your findings. He would be much more knowledgeable about answering that than I am. I can comfortable answer your question about status changing. Yes, it is possible but it will not necessarily effect your outcome. It will effect your treatment options. Mine was tested as Her 2 negative during biopsy and I had a second option done at Dana Farber with same results. After surgery, when they did the pathology, I was found to have Her 2 positive. That basically means I will have a different treatment thrown in the mix in order keep the cancer from recurring. I see you will need chemo. Will this be right after delivery?
I wish you well.

Hi Shellsatthebeach thank you for responding. According to the oncologist, I will start chemo while pregnant. The further out into my pregnancy the better. So she's saying ill have surgery in the next week or 2. And start chemo about 4 weeks after. She explained some risk with chemo and pregnancy such as growth, but said the risk were low. But ill have to wait until after delivery for radiation and to start tamoxifen.

I am 35 and found out I was pregnant two days before my diagnosis. That pregnancy didn’t stick, but I experienced all the fear that went along with the idea of chemo during pregnancy.
I am so sorry you are going through this, but you will have a beautiful baby on the other end, which is a wonderful thing to await you!!! You are strong as a steel butterfly. You can do this.

no advice but wanted you to know I’m listening. I wish the best for you, and your babies! 💗💗💗

LovelyLeo.. I'm so sorry you have to join this club. Joining without being pregnant is hard enough. I can't imagine what you are going through right now.
However, I've been a member of this board for almost 1.5 years now. I've seen (too many) pregnant women on these boards. There’sactually a thread under “just diagnosed and pregnant" by a board member that was diagnosed at 15 weeks. She had her baby a few months ago, and both baby and mom are doing great!!
It can be done. You will get through this. The next year or two will be difficult, no doubt. But, you're strong! You can do this!!!
