Patients in Canada - Info immediately after ultrasound?

Hi,

I have read many posts from women who have had their ultrasound and seem to get results or some information from the radiologist immediately afterward.

This has not been my experience, I have to wait for a call from the Dr or nurse from the breast health clinic within 2-3 days.

I have an ultrasound scheduled for next Wednesday and am wondering if anyone has experienced asking whether or not the radiologist or tech can tell whether or not there is anything to be concerned about or whether additional testing will be required.

This is my second time, had a lumpectomy in 2016 and everything was okay at that time. I agree with everyone who has said that waiting is the most difficult part.

    The radiologist wouldn't tell me anything after my diagnostic mammo & ultrasound, butt they called my family doctor right away & she called me so I knew within an hour of having the u/s. I'd barely got home when she called to say she'd be referring me for a biopsy.

    I go to two different hospitals for yearly imaging, 1 for screening mammogram and the other for diagnostic mammograms. The screening hospital tells you nothing, the other sends the radiologist in for the US portion and I get instant results. I was at a different facility during diagnosis and treatment. They sent me all over hell'shalf acre for every test and most of them (all but one) forwarded results on to my PCP to relay the news. So, in essence I assume it depends on the facility. I know techs can't legally give results...if the rad isn't busy and takes pity on you, you might get on the spot results. Clear as mud eh?

    When I got the mammogram that led to my diagnosis, a doctor check the mammogram while I was still there in the room in my little blue gown. I'm not sure if the tech thought it needed a closer look, but the doctor ordered an ultrasound, which was done right then and that convinced the doctor that a biopsy was needed. As far as getting the results was concerned, the surgeon who did the biopsy basically told me that it looks like cancer, and it turns out she was right. This was just before Easter, so I didn't get actual results until 6 days later when I met with the surgeon. (I live in a small city in northern Ontario and I go to the regional cancer centre in Sudbury, which is about 2 hours from home.) I have no idea if this helps answer your question, but I hope it helps!

    Thank you all for your replies. I am in BC.

    I know that the tech probably won't say anything so I'll do my best to not stare at the screen in an attempt to self diagnose.

    Brave, Maybe you could ask the tech when it will be read and then phone your family doc and ask her to phone for a verbal report.....you could make an appt. And tell the receptionist the it's for results of you ultrasound
