Extended taste loss

I am 17 months post final chemo and STILL have no taste. Anyone else experience this? I had 4 rounds of TC.

Yes, I’ve often been called tasteless!

Seriously though, I vaguely taste acids like vinegar and lemon so I always added extra...family didn’t appreciate it much until I ‘relearned’ acid use in recipes. Everything else returned by the 6 month point. Have you spoken to your MO about this?

Ask about zinc. It was recommended by the docs I worked for

I’ve been on zinc since July. MO last week was surprised it wasn’t back and said I was “ her 1st patient this has happened to”. Went to ENT who said at this point it’s slim chances for coming back. You know us BC survivors, I’m not giving up, I will keep searching for answers!!

I also have reduced sense of taste, but I think it is due to the fact that I lost my sense of smell sometime during treatment.  Does anyone feel like their sense of smell has been affected too?

I have had this experience as well. Some loss of smell which is coming back and reduced sense of taste.

I recently went to a dietician I am having a test at a lab next week to see if I am low in any vitamins. She strongly felt I should have zinc,B12 and other B vitamins checked. I know you need to watch your copper intake because it uses the same pathway as zinc.

I will post back if the nutrition plan she is developing with me helps me to regain my sense of taste and smell.

The ENT told me that taste is 80% smell. That said, my smell is intact. I may try some acupuncture, and am looking for a specialist in taste and smell which doesn't seem to pop up in Chicago area. There are 3 universities which have taste/smell centers but I'm hoping to find something closer than a plane ride away for my treatment!

Since I finished chemo in January, I keep smelling cigarette smoke. We do not smoke and there is no smoke. It's weird.
