Seek a 2nd opinion of surgical pathology

I had a total mastectomy on my left breast back in March. The surgical pathology came back as pure DCIS, so I decided to skip the Tamoxifen pills due to family's stroke history. But recently I felt tinglings on my left arm and suspicious it could be something. PT said my lymph nodes feel fine, but it makes me nervous. Does anyone know how I can have another lab check my tissues and give another surgical pathology? Whom I should take to? My surgeon doctor or another oncology doctor? I haven't seen an oncology doctor after the surgery. Thanks a lot in advance.

    Hi,

Good question. Hopefully someone might have a better answer. I don't know how long they keep/store tissue samples. Perhaps if you call the lab at the hospital where you had the procedure done they could at least tell you if the sample is still available. If so I think you probably would just have to request(maybe fill out a form(s)) that they either be sent to another laboratory or dr or whomever or wherever you choose.

I know others have had slides reviewed by different dr's/labs, so I'm sure someone with some knowledge will chime in soon. Hoping for you that it was just a little nerve issue. I had a dbl back in August and I still have weird sensations.

LostGirl I think you can get another review of your pathology if you need to. Since you had a MX what exactly is your question about, that it was indeed pure DCIS? Maybe a visit to your Oncologist would allay some of your fears. But if you feel the need for a second opinion you can call cancer specialist and make appt and take all your records. They can have different pathologist review the findings. Hope this helps.
