Biopsy today for BIRADS 4 with vascularity

Hi all.

So I had an US guided biospy today for a BIRADS 4 well circumscribed hypoechoic mass measuring 9mm longest diameter with associated nipple discharge I asked the nurse and radiologist today the chances it is really serious. He said considering my age (31) odds are it’s benign. However, the mass has some vascularity to it, hence the biopsy. Has anyone else had a similar experience? Can benign masses have vascularity? I actually saw the blood flow myself on ultrasound.

I’m so anxious. I just found out today that my maternal aunt was diagnosed with BC 4 years ago.

Yes, benign masses can have vascularity too.

Thank you for the quick response. I had managed to convince myself it’s bening until today when I saw the vascularity. Now I’m freaking out

Hi all, my apologies for not posting and updating before now. It’s been a whirlwind last few weeks.

So, my biopsy CNB result came back as fragmented papillary lesion with a background of benign breast tissue. Positive for myoepithelial cells ruling out invasive carcinoma and also positive for E-cadherin. Because of the fragmented nature of the core samples, an excision with free margins was recommended for complete evaluation of breast around the lesion. I had the surgery this past Thursday May 31st. I don’t have the final pathology results back yet but I’m praying it’s all still benign and I’m trusting God completely. I should know something but Tuesday.

As for the surgery, I have had no pain and haven’t even filled out my prescription for Tramadol. I’ve not even had to take Tylenol. Glue was used on the incision site and it’s hold my up well. I’ve been taking daily showers. My breast still has some bruising and is still hard as compared to the right but I’m praying it’ll all be back to normal in a few weeks. I’ve been wearing VSsports bra everyday day since the surgery.

I had all the major signs: inverted nipple, high vascularity, large mass, bleeding from nipple, severe weight loss, BIRADS 4 from all tests. Yet the pathology said no. We knew better. I wasn't diagnosed until after the DMX. Stay vigilant in getting answers should things not add up. (6 biopsieds Ihad total)

    Hi Aliceinchains,

I am truly sorry to read about your diagnosis. I can only hope and pray your treatment process goes well and easy. Thank you for your message. Like you said, being vigilant is key which is why I decided to go ahead with the excisional biopsy surgery ASAP even though the radiologist and breast surgeon didn’t think there was any urgency based on my scans, the size of the mass, it not being palpable, the nipple bloody discharge that had stopped and theCNB results. We are after all, our own advocate.
