Diagnosed mastitis, worried it’s ibc

Egads007- lol no lumpy gravy for me tonight! I think some bob Marley, every little thing is gonna be alright is on the playlist tonight, with pizza for dinner. I wish I would have bought some wine at the store earlier, too late now, husband is at work for the night with the only working vehicle. ( he is a mechanic, so naturally our own vehicles are always broken.)
Thank you everyone for the positive thoughts. Fingers crossed it’s just some nasty mastitis that antibiotics aren’t working for. I’ll update after the appt tomorrow.
-
still no answers. Met with the radiologist afterwards and he didn’t see anything on the mammogram and ultrasound. He said he didn’t even see any of the normal signs of mastitis. He is calling my primary on Monday and said either probably another round of stronger antibiotics, a referral to a breast surgeon or mri.
-
I vote for both the breast surgeon and the MRI.
-
so my doctors office called, they are putting me on a stronger antibiotic and if that doesn't clear it up, then a referral to breast surgeon and possible mri. I’m at the pharmacy getting levaquin antibiotic, I’ll post the report from exam today when I get home
-
Goodness Duckmomma! I'm glad they didn't find anything..I'm sorry that you're still in limbo. Thinking about you! I hope that the antibiotics will clear some things up for you.. please keep us posted.

FINDINGS: The breast tissue is heterogeneously dense, which may obscure small masses. There are no suspicious appearing masses or calcifications. There is no evidence of skin thickening. No changes in the nipple areolar complex region. No findings to
account for the palpable findings. Normal appearing lymph nodes are seen in the upper outer quadrant, posterior depth.
Ultrasound of the entire outer aspect of the breast demonstrates only 2 small normal-appearing lymph nodes at the 2:00 position. These are located 12 cm from the nipple. -
So you’re still in a holding pattern dang it, but at least the US and mammo shows nothing. I’m hoping the stronger meds kick this thing to the curb! How long a course of medsdid they give you? Please keep us in the loop on how you are doing....btw, how are you feeling about your appointment?
-
apparently they are very strong antibiotics, it is one a day for 7 days. Gonna start them tomorrow (drinking wine tonight) I’ll finish them just in time to go on vacation. The mammogram hurt, and I had to do some crazy yoga poses for them to get the pictures. I’m relieved they didn’t find anything, but wish it would have shown an infection, so at least I would know. I mean there has to be a reason the breast is swollen, and the nipple is indented, and the rash is still there. I’m afraid of all the antibiotics, I don’t want to become intolerant.
-
I’m glad you’re having a glass or three tonight, you sure deserve it! Honestly, I don’t think two courses of antibiotics are going to make you intolerant. You have every right to be frustrated...not having answers totally sucks! Hang in, the meds just might do the trick....some infections can be stubborn. My father had one under his toenail, it took many courses of really strong meds to clear it. I know a toe isn’t a breast, I’m just making the point that some infections claim squatters rights. I realize I’m also babbling here, which is no help to you.Give the meds a chance and try to look forward to vacation, one step at a time.
-
I agree with Egads. Intolerance to antibiotics occurs when someone takes them frequently for long bbn periods. You can see this in children who have had chronic ear infections. And even then they don't become intolerant to all antibiotics, just the one they're taking. Two courses of antibiotics is not likely to cause intolerance.
-
tomorrow is my last day of antibiotics and no change. I leave on Monday for vacation. I’ll be driving all day Monday, but I’ll call the doctor at a rest stop when they open and get started on the next steps to do when I get back, or see if she wants me to just do them while I’m down there. Last night I started getting an intermittent stabbing pain near the nipple, but everything else is still the same.
-
Duck, I'm so sorry to hear you're in pain and that there hasn't been any change. Let us know what happens after you call. Vacations are hard earned, try to kick back and enjoy as best you can.....I know it's hard. Big Hugs!!!

back from Florida!! I have an appointment with the breast specialist on Tuesday.
-
Hey! How was vakay?? Hoping you enjoyed! Also glad you have an appointment to get this resolved. Any better yet
-
It was great, except for how peopley it was. I was happy to be back in my town with no traffic and less people. I picked up the mammogram films yesterday to take to the appt. There have been no changes, and still randomly getting sharp pains and dull ache in armpit. It’s still swollen with a rash.

Please keep us updated! I just came across this post because I am going thought the EXACT same thing. So similar, in fact, that it's uncanny. I am 42 years old and had a hysterectomy 4 years ago due to severe endometriosis. Due to the endo, I was never able to have children, so I have never breastfed. I woke up Monday morning with extreme pain in the right breast. There is a hard, thickened area (I hesitate to use the word "lump", but I guess it is) that extends from below the nipple to the right of the nipple. It is also hot and swollen. I went to the doctor on Wednesday and was diagnosed with mastitis and given antibiotics. I am scheduled for a mammogram on July 11 so that it will be done after the swelling and pain has subsided, hopefully. So, our situations are very similar and it would help my worrywart self if you keep me updated. Thanks!
-
starwarsfan- glad to update hope it helps. Hopefully the specialist tells me something on Tuesday, this has been going on like two months
-
Hey Duck, hoping all goes well tomorrow, I’ll be checking in to see. Fingers crossed for some good answers
-
any updates? WhAt was the outcome
-
I went to the specialist and he wasn’t concerned. The symptoms eventually went away. No idea what it was. I knew a few days in that it wasn’t cancer, but never got an explanation of symptoms
-
dear duck..
Just ran across this thread. If they can't diagnose it will they follow up every three months with tests? In October 2017 I had blood work to rule out Lupus and Rhumatoid. Got negative results except for high inflammation. Long story short after multiple procedures my 2012 HR+ cancer had metastasized to lower back . If you're not comfortable press hard. Hugs
