edited June 2018 in Waiting for Test Results

Hello,

I’ve been lurking and reading lots for the last 6 weeks. On April 1st I broke my ribs and during a follow up CT scan of my ribs they saw assymetrical nodularity of my left breast and requested a mammo be completed.

My mammo showed a area of suspicion in left outer quadrant. Ultrasound was negative. Stereotactic biopsy recommended.

Had the biopsy done 9 days ago, results still pending. Mri of breast scheduled for June 8th.

I’m having a hard time with all the waiting. I’m a nurse and I know the good, the bad, and the ugly as I worked oncology.

I don't have any advice because I'm right there struggling with you. I'm 30, in the medical field, and waiting to get my biopsy done after having an abnormal ultrasound. I will be meeting the BS doing my biopsy on June 5th. It's less than a week away now, but I had my US last Thursday! Almost 2 weeks total. Ive had way too much time on my hands to use dr google and scare the sh*t out of myself. I try to justify it as "preparing for the worst" but i know I should be staying positive and probably staying off this site until I know for sure...good luck

although I do want to know the results are taking more than a week? Is that common for where you went?

Hi Sita26, I would call about the results. I had a stereotactic biopsy on a Friday and had the results the following Tuesday. 9 days does seem like a long time.

I’ve called pathology 3 times a day :( they are still pending. They told me doctor yesterday that they sent them for second opinion and that they have no preliminary results :

In your calls can you request the first opinion? Keep up the calls and the very best wishes to you Momof5.

That’s horrible that you have to wait so long. It’s good they are getting another opinion to be sure they get it right, but they owe you an explanation as to what specifically is prompting the second opinion

my hospital automatically went for 2nd opinion on my results, unbeknownst to me but I saw it on the pathogy report. My report ultimately took about 10 days. Big hospital so I think volume may be an issue. And last piece of info was hormone piece. Ultimately I jumped the gun and met but was not able to get all info. That was really upsetting. I hope your results are back in the next few days. The waiting is hard. I now have a surgical plan ... which may change depending on outcome of MRI, which I had yesterday. Hang in there. Think positive. One day at a time. Positive thoughts sent your way.

Can you go to their office in person? Hate you're waiting so long :( can you ask for the results of the first opinion? Do you have access to your records online and maybe they posted the first set while waiting for the second opinion? Damn healthcare and their waiting games (also an RN ;) but seriously wth people?!) Hope you hear back today!

I’m still waiting.... quest keeps telling my doctor they sent it for a additional testing. When asked about the additional testing they said it was for xray imaging.

I’ve convinced myself it’s positive and have come to terms to slice both off and move on with life.

it’s so weird.. I worked oncology for a long time a nurse and have never had it take this long and it’s the same lab we used. I’m still close with the oncologist I worked fo and he is stumped too.

I’m having a MRI Friday and I’m seeing a oncologist / breast surgeon on June 14th. I’m assuming it’s positive since they sent it for additional testing.. no other explanation.

My biopsy took about twice as long, too. Here is what happened. One pathologist called it ADH and ALH, the second pathologist called it DCIS and LCIS. (I guess it is standard practice to have two pathologists look at the specimen independently. ) Those result triggered the sending out of the specimen for tie-breaker. I’m in OKC, and they sent the specimen to Vanderbilt. The Vanderbilt doc called it ALH and ADH, so that was the diagnosis. Apparently the cells at these stages look very similar and it can be a difficult call. Conversely my doctor said invasive cancer is easy to tell at pathology because of the staining they do.

I’m sorry it is taking so long. I hope you get results soon!
