a week ago, I noticed a dimple in the side of my left breast. Then I felt a lump near my left armpit. The lump and the dimple are very close together. I saw my doctor who has referred me for a diagnostic mammogram and ultrasound urgently

The lump is quite sore and aches since the doctor pressed on it. I'm also having night sweats.. I'm just terrified. Any advice

Hang in there, Coralie. There's nothing quite like finding a lump in your breast. When is your mammo and US? The night sweats may well be hormone &/or anxiety-related. Most lumps are NOT cancerous, thankfully.

Let us know how it goes.

    Coralie,

You're doing all you can do right now. You felt a lump, went to your doctor, and got an appointment for a mammogram/US. Mustlovepoodles is right; many lumps turn out to be benign. Sad to say, right now you're playing the waiting game -- waiting for the scans. Try not to look too far ahead and try not to self-diagnose yourself with cancer. Just take it one step at a time.

Coralie, we're so sorry to hear such unwelcome news. We all know how hard it is at the beginning, but want you to know that you are not alone! You may find some helpful info in our Topic: Important links if just Diagnosed, a good place to start that can help you understand pathology reports, weigh treatment options, and more.

Oh, I'm so sorry, Coralie. I was so hoping it would be benign. What happens next is you see a surgeon, hopefully a breast specialist. They will probably do a breast MRI to make sure there are no surprises. They will go over your family history and may possibly recommend genetic testing, if appropriate. They will discuss your surgical options and will recommend you see an oncologist. The oncologist drives the show. He will determine whether you need chemo, radiation, and hormone-suppressant meds.

Don't feel you must hurry to make decisions. A couple weeks, or even a month or two, won't make much difference, as far as breast cancer growth. So, you do have time to think things through or get second opinions (which I highly recommend.)
