I had my first routine mammogram ever this week and it came back with a BiRads5 with a spciulated mass (6cm/2 cm core). Radiologist was clear that this was likely to be malignant and did a biopsy of both mass and a lymph node right away. Pathology was supposed to come back in 2-3 days, but I found out late this afternoon that after three days the pathologist sent the slides to a major hospital with no report provided. It will be at least another week now. Any idea why the pathologist would do this and what it means?

Not sure why they would do that unless the pathologist needed an independent review of the biopsy for some reason.

Good morning and I'm so sorry about the delay and the stress. Protocol is usually to have two radiologists review, so if your test was done at a smaller facility that could be what's going on. Best wishes and please keep in touch with us.

all of my biopsies and pathology reports had 2 different docs review and sign off on them. Likely what’s happening with yours. The first pathologist may have just had a backload of samples to review causing the delay.

Sorry you find yourself here. I too had a long wait for results, found out later my reason was the same as yours. In hindsight I wish I would’ve took a big breath and gone for some tlc. Gone to the beach or just took a walk somewhere peaceful and nice. Not trying to be glib. The part your going through is the most stressful. Once you have answers you know one way or another. Things seem to go very slow at the beginning if that is what turns out to be. I wish you all the best and our thoughts are with you

as stated above, yes, it’s true that 2 pathologists have to look at the slide. It stinks, especially since it’s a holiday weekend. But, try no to dwell on the negative. You don’t know anything yet, so try and enjoy yourself. Advocate for yourself. Call on Tuesday to see if they can you provide you with something, anything. Best of luck.
