Microcalcification and LCIS

Options

Hi Everyone

Last year I was told I have Microcalcification and LCIS. I had my follow up mammogram and ultrasound today. The calcs have increased in numbers and the ultrasound was clear.. So what's next. I guess I need to know if anyone has been through this and if so did you consider surgery, regular checkups or consider clinical trials. The thing about calcs is they never go away and the dilema and stress just goes on and on. Would love to hear some thoughts and experiences from you. Cheers

I don't know yet I have to wait 4 weeks to see surgeon. What is the usual protocol for LCIS as it has probably been there for years. My understanding is that it is usually developed pre menopause and I am post menopause. What process did you go through MelissaDallas. And btw thank you for your response. I am new to this site.

I had stereotactic biopsy that showed ALH, suspicious for LCIS. Had an excisional biopsy which confirmed LCIS but nothing worse. You can be followed six month alternating mammogram and clinical breast exam. Sometimes MRIs. You may be offered tamoxifen, raloxifene or an aromatase inhibitor to reduce your risk of eventually developing cancer.. Most women with LCIS do not go on to develop it

Thank you so much for your feedback. It does make me feel better particularly when you hear it from someone who has been through it. I really appreciate it.
