I was diagnosed IDC 1.3 cm 0/3 nodes. Lumpectomy with clean borders. A month later had breast reduction surgery and tissue also clean, no cancer. All docs thought I'd be ablessed to skip chemo. Oncotype score was 27.

I've been depressed ever since I got it 3 weeks ago. I don't want to do any drug therapy. I said no to chemo. Still thinking about tamoxifen. I'm going to have radiation. I was fine until that stupid score. I want to know chances of no recurrence if I don't do either drug therapy.

I see you did chemo. Good luck to you.

My case I was 53, very good health I had 2 tumors ilc and idc 1cm each, no nodes. My scores 3 tubular, 2 nuclear and 1 mitotic, the other 3 tubular, 1 nuclear, 1 mitotic. I received one oncodx score of 34. I think in my case er was 95% And pr was negative. I chose no chemo and was already post menopausal and did 4 years AI drugs.

I wasn't at all impressed with statistics, and given mitotic score 1, and found the AI drugs actually work pretty well for er+ pr - cancers probably much better than chemo on a slow growing cancer. In your case, I would ask for a mammoprint or the symphony suite. You may get better information as far as recurrence risk and benefit of chemo.

Yes, I ditto the recommendation of the Mammaprint test.  There is no intermediate on that test, it is either high risk or low risk.   I was an intermediate oncotype and did the mammaprint as a tie breaker.  It came back low risk, so no chemo.  But I'm faithfully doing Tamoxifen and it's been relatively issue free - only my hair has lost volume due to the less amount of estrogen in my body. I'll take that over dying... I have kiddos to raise.

Marymc - you can run your stats through calculators such as this http://www.lifemath.net/cancer/breastcancer/therap...

    & this http://www.predict.nhs.uk/predict_v2.0.html

Do discuss the results and how to interpret the stats with your physicians because your own individual case history affects them. And of course the stats don't apply to the individual...

Hi Mary, your MO should give you your percentages whether you do any combination of chemo/tam, tam, or choose to do nothing so please ask! . I had a 27 oncotype and will share mine. If i did nothing, 34% chance of recurrence. Taking Tamoxifen /AI in my case 17%, doing chemo gives a 5% reduction so I'm at a 12% chance of recurrence. Again, we never know what side of the coin flip we will be on when it comes to recurrence. Make the best decision you can with the information you haven been given. And make the one that will give yourself the least amount of worry! These tough choices seem to never end. Hang in there

Avidreader, your score and treatment, are imilar to mine. I am following your post and hope to know how it goes. My BC stage was 2, not in lymph nodes, 2cm, IDC-L. ER+, ONCA 30. I was 59, AC-T Chemo plus Radiation and am now on an AI but I'm having undesirable side effects that may be a deal breaker. Thanks for posting. This is a scary ride and with an ONCA score close to 31, it raises many questions. We can do this. I'm hopeful science will find a cure in the future.
