Please help me. I am in deep trouble. My mother had mastectomy done then the oncologist gave 8 cycles of chemo therapy then 15 radio therapy and after that they suggested for herceptin injection. Now I am in India and the indian doctors are suggesting that herceptin should be given with chemo and now your mother has finished chemo and radio. Now it is too late and herceptin would not work. What should I do now? Is it true that herceptin would not work now?

I am not a health care provider, but I would say the Herceptin will work regardless. Else, they should provide you evidence showing it doesn't work.

    Peace, Zahid.

Yes, administering Herceptin alone following prior Chemotherapy is one of the customary ways to do Herceptin treatment. Read here at the Herceptin information website. Scroll down to the "Indications" section.

I presented with a large tumor. The initial biopsy said it was Estrogen and Progesterone + but HER2-.

I had ACT and 12 rounds of Taxol. My tumor shrank, but not drastically. After surgery, a biopsy was done, now, with a lot of tissue. It showed that I was HER2+. My oncologist thinks the most likely explanation is that I had a heterogenous tumor - some cells were HER2+ and some were not. Unfortunately, the original biopsy missed the + cells. I repeated the 12 taxols, adding in Herceptin every third week. He said it is more effective when given with Taxol. I don't think it's ever too late to get Herceptin. Obviously, it's better to get it sooner than later!
