Breast Abscess Question
Hello all. I was here last fall documenting my story of a subareolar breast abscess. It has now been just over 6 months since I received my B9 biopsy confirming that my lump was caused by an infection. After the biopsy I was given a 6 month wait and see period. So now here I am. I recently had a follow up ultrasound which confirmed that yep the abscess is still there.
My question is why the heck would he just leave it there? It seems to me like a ticking time bomb having this ball of infection just hanging out in my breast. Maybe he has a logical reason but I can't think of one. I am going to meet with him to tell him I want it OUT and I hope he gives me no issue. I would just ask for it to be drained but the main reason I had a biopsy in the first place was because the rad said it was too solid to aspirate.
Thanks for any insight any one may have.

So according to my recent ultrasound there is zero fluid in this mass now and very minimal infection. It's still about the same size (though to report erronusly stated it was 7.5cm previously 1.5) The guess is extra tissue or a scar. Either way I want it out and my GP has agreed to set me up with a B.S.

I am glad that the fluid and infection have almost disappeared! I think it is great that you are going to meet with a BS. I would want it out as well! I'm sorry that you have to deal with this. It sounds very painful. Let us know how it goes.

Thanks for the reply kmartin!
It actually is not painful at all. It only bother me because I can feel it and it has been there for at least 6 months changing from a complex cyst to a solid lesion from the biopsy [October 2017] to today. It feels about the size of a small marble. I am looking forward to meeting the BS and getting her views.
I will update when I have more info.
I know this is "cancer" forum but I don't really have anyone to talk to about this stuff who understand breast concerns.

No, you're in the right place. This is the Benign Breast Conditions forum.

I have my consultation scheduled with the surgeon for May 7th. I am so happy that there is a light at the end of this tunnel.
-
Awesome! So glad to hear it! You're almost there!

Today is my consultation with the surgeon and feeling nervous. I keep meaning to write down questions to ask but I really don't know what to ask...
-
So the consultation didn't go as planned. She is refusing to do the surgery until I have quit smoking for at least 3 months. I understand that but she also complained about how it was so small and she couldn't find it which I think is crap. I have a freaking target over it considering it is directly behind my nipple. She said because she can't feel it it is likely she will cause too much cosmetic damage. She is not comfortable doing something only a cm and it is already on her threshold for what she will operate on.
If the surgeon isn't confident she can do a decent job I am certainly not confident she can. I will quit smoking but I will not go back to that doctor for the procedure.

I’m sorry it didn’t go as planned. It sounds like she was at least honest with you onvwhat you could expect outcome wise with her skill level. Many other docs likely wouldn’t have said anything, done the surgery and said Oh well! When you were my happy. If it is indeed an abscess or cyst, a PS should be ok removing it (I’ve had them remove cysts before). Perhaps consult with a PS and see what they say.

Hello! how are you?
what were your symptoms I'm going through the same thing and although the biopsy only showed infection and abscess, my breast is still somewhat red, sore and dark with air almost two months later
I feel somewhat desperate
-
I personally didn't have much redness just a bit tender. My nipple retracted which was why I went to have it checked out in the first place. Breast abscess in nonlactating women tend to reoccur and are very hard to get rid of. Do you have some type of follow plan with your doctor? If not you may wish to call them to set another appointment to have it reevaluated.
