New LCIS found after 3 years....but I have a question
Quick backround:
3 to 4 years ago I was diagnosed with LCIS. Took tamoxifin for ONLY 1 year. Had to stop as I was a rare case where it was affecting my vision. I've been watch and wait ever since.
I recently went for my most recent mammo. All clear. Ultrasound, all clear. MRI showed 5 mm circumscribed progressively enhancing nodule in the upper outer left breast. u/s recommended. Biraids 0
Went for 2nd u/s and still didn't see it. Not surprising to me since they didn't see it the first time. I asked why would they send me for the 2nd u/s when the u/s didn't show it to begin with? The radiologist said most likely the doctor already knew he wanted to biopsy it but hoped it would show on U/S sound so he could do the u/s guided biopsy instead of the mri guided biopsy.
The finding on 2nd u/s was: There is no sonographic correlate for the 5 mm enhancing nodule in the upper outer quadrant seen on mri. A 3 mm cycst is present in the 2:00 position, 6 cm fn. Area in left breast is suspicious. An MR guided biopsy is recommended. Bi-rads 4
Went for the MRI biopsy in hopes the finding would disappear so that they could cancel and call it a day. That happens 18% of the time, I'm told. None the less it was still there.
MR Guided biopsy finding: A. LEFT BREAST MASS, UOQ, CORE BIOPSY: Scattered foci of lobular neoplasia (one focus of lobular carcinoma in situ and three foci of atypical lobular hyperplasia), sclerosing adenosis, microcysts, pseudoangiomatous stromal hyperplasia and associated microcalcifications. These high-risk results are concordant with imaging. RECOMMENDATION: Excisional biopsy is recommended.
The area of exsisional biopsy today was the 5mm enhancing nodule in upper outer qudrant
Sounds to me like they found a new area of LCIS. Do they normally do exicisonal biopsy's after every new LCIS that pops up on the 1st biopsy, even though we already know I have LCIS? I'm a little confused on this.
Anyone? lol

I'm not reading your post correctly I'm sure. The mri biopsy was on the 5mm that showed? What is the 6cm that was listed in the report?
-
Hi!
the 6cm fn...is referencing the 3mm cyst. It's located 6 cm from the nipple

I think the concern when finding any new areas of Lcis is to then rule out anything more invasive hiding adjacent to it.. at least this is what my SO had mentioned to me

Got it. I'd say the same as Michi wrote. They just want to make sure. Prior to be dxd with BC, initially they had found upon biopsy in my left breast a radial scar, and everything else in the biopsy indicated benign changes, they recommended a wider removal due to the fact that even though a radial scar is benign sometimes cancer can be lurking nearby. Wound up being clean, but I'd say its the same for you, they want to make sure there is nothing else nearby.
In my right breast upon biopsy it came back as IDC. I chose a mastectomy and after surgery found out it was actually ILC and also had LCIS and DCIS in the same tumor. Never knew I had either. Nothing showed on my mammo/sonos prior so I'd feel a little more assured that IF something were to ever change with you, they would know sooner rather than later. Covering themselves also.
