edited May 2018 in Not Diagnosed But Worried

About two weeks ago I noticed a large lump on my left breast. It feels like the size of golf ball. I was able to get an appt at my gyn's office the following week. Two different dr's felt the lump and neither thought it was anything serious. However, they did make an appt for a mammo and US to be safe. I went in for the mammo and US the following week and got the following report:

Impression

Infiltrative mass in the left breast concerning for malignancy. A
prominent lymph node likely relates to metastatic involvement.

Recommendation: Left breast ultrasound-guided core biopsy at patient's earliest
convenience.

BI-RADS code: Category 5: Highly suggestive of malignancy. Tissue diagnosis is
recommended.

Left breast: There is a skin marker at the 12:00 axis at posterior depth
indicating the area of palpable concern. Beneath this there is a large
ill-defined area of irregular increased density throughout the middle and
posterior depth of the breast. There is a prominent lymph node in the superior
breast seen on the MLO view. There is some architectural distortion within the
mass. There are no concerning calcifications.
Left breast ultrasound: Ultrasound is performed and reveals a large irregularly
marginated hypoechoic mass throughout the superior breast from the 12:00 to
11:00 axis, 7 to 13 cm from the nipple. In the axilla there is a mildly
enlarged lymph node with diffuse thickening of the mantle.

The US tech said that the lump measured about 2.5 cm but then they saw what seems to be another lump. The radiologist said that it appeared to part of the original lump. He said that it was kind of like a cluster. I didn't get anymore info. My coworker who was diagnosed with BC about two years ago told me to that I should I go ahead and prepare for this being BC. My biopsy is scheduled for next Wed. I'm a single parent of a 10 yr old. My only fear is that it is farther along than what I'm anticipating. I'm really worried.

So sorry to hear this. You are doing the right thing by getting it biopsied. Good luck to you.

As you may already know, BIRADs5 is not favorable (95% risk of malignancy.) That's not to say it's a forgone conclusion--there have been others on this site who were BIRADs5 that came back benign. But its rare. Try to keep yourself together, but start rallying your support system.

I’m new here and to all of this as well. I was just diagnosed 5/11/18. Like you, I found a lump that I could feel just by rubbing my hand under my arm on 4/29/18. It came out of no where. Went to my Dr and he thought it was a cyst. Ordered a mamo and US. Gave me results right after saying it looked suspicious and birad 5. Lymph nodes looked normal and not swollen. Got biopsy next day then the brutalizing wait for the results which came 3 days later. Dx-IDC ER+/PR+ HER- 1cm, right side. Got MRI today of both breast and lumpectomy scheduled for the 31st. That’s the plan as of today. I see my surgeon next Tuesday and he will tell me results of MRI. I have googled, stressed, worried and cried.

Hi Angeldj, I promise it gets better. Cry, don't hold it...then you go to work. You have a plan and get it done. Keep coming here...amazing ladies here that can jump in and help with questions and support along the way. Add your states to your signature line and everyone can see, relate and help when they have the same expirence.

Pink36....guessing you are 36? :) I was 36 when I was dx last July. I have two boys, 12 and 14. I'm not even worried about my husband.....I do not want my kids to lose their moter as teens. I can do anything, but seeing them go through this is by far the worse. As you get more info and start trying to figure things out, keep him in the loop. If you are concerned, don't hesitate to get him with a great therapist. My oldest is doing great, my youngest not so much.

Also, PLEASE make sure you get an MRI before treatment starts should it be malignant. Feel free to PM if you would like to chat---anytime!

Thanks to all of you who replied. The mass and the lymph node were both positive. They weren’t able to give me any additional info besides the grade which is II
