It was suggested in another thread to start a movie review here. I am all for it. It will give us something else to share on another front.

The last movie we saw was "The Good Shepherd". Great account of the beginnings of the CIA. If you remember the 60's it brings back memories. It does not go beyond the Bayof Pigs incident. It also deals with the interpersonal relationships between agents and agents and agents and their families. Very well done.

I give it 4 out of 5 stars simply because it does drag on a bit in places.

I just watched a lovely movie called "Ladies in Lavender" with Maggie Smith. She's one of my favorite actors. It was a little sad. Two elderly sisters in Cornwall find a Polish shipwreck survivor and nurse him back to health. The young man turns out to be a violin virtuoso and eventually leaves. It was very touching.

I was watching Maury today, it was about paranormal activity in homes. They were previewing "The Messengers", boy does that look scary!

I saw "Pan's Labyrinth" and it was wonderful and sad. It is set in Spain during their civil war and weaves the war story with a child's fairytale. It is not for children and has English subtitles. Really a great movie!

Son of Godzilla, the boys wanted to see it. It was kinda fun to watch. They cried. They felt bad for baby Godzilla. The same with ET!! I have sensitive boys!

Blood Diamond is a good movie if you don't mind violence. Leonardo Decaprio is in it. Suppose to be a true story about the violence surrounding the diamond mines in Africa.
    Very good acting!

Janis....Godzilla! Do you have any idea how many I have sat through? Thank God it was a phase!

And Sherry, I want to see Blood Diamond too but dh does not like DiCaprio. So, sounds like girls' afternoon out with a trip to get our nails done first!

You may be able to convince DH, by letting him know Blood Diamond is no way a chick flick, lots of VIOLENCE. Sad thing is it is true, but great acting. Really good movie.

Has anyone seen Dreamgirls?? I'm thinking of making DH take me on a date tomorrow!

We rented Sherry Baby last week - was terrible - DH chose it because it had 2 thumbs up. No idea why.

    Kerri:
My hubby and I went to see Dreamgirls last Saturday night and we thought it was very good. Jennifer Hudson is as good as they say and all in all a very good cast.
Then yesterday my girlfriend and I went to see Notes on a Scandle - Judi Dench and Cate Blanchette. It was excellent. I think this Saturday we plan to see The Queen. Have heard very good things about it too.
    Have fun,
    Pat

I thought Dreamgirls was an excellent movie. I like movies like that though. Walk the Line and Ray are to favorites as well.

I loved the live production of Dreamgirls and I hear Hudson is as good as Nell Carter was in the same role on Broadway. I also love anything DAme Judi is in so "Notes" is my next choice.

It was Jennifer Holiday that played the role of "Effie" (the one Jennifer Hudson played in the movie) on B'way. (I only know this because it was the very first B'way musical/play I ever say. I was 16). Dreamgirls - the movie - was incredible. Eddie Murphy and Jennifer Hudson were awesome...

I do "chick flick" movie reviews for my web site every month. The last one I saw was "The Magdalene Sisters" which was a sad movie about these young girls rejected by their families for being "fallen" women (i.e. sex outside of marriage; one girl was actually raped by a cousin and still thrown out of her house) in 1960s Ireland...

I just found the Independent Film Channel on my TV last week. I watched 3 movies over the week-end. Sorry but I can't remember the names. They were all very good though. I didn't even know I got that channel. Any of you watch it?

Thanks for the reviews! I've watched some great films recently:

    Babal
    The Painted Veil
The Departed (reminded me of Goodfellas - same director)
The Queen (Helen Miren reigns!...pun intended)
    Children of Men (eerie)
Little Miss Sunshine (EVERYONE loved it, I thought it was just okay)
    Night at the Museum
Little Childern (Kate Kinslet was great as usual)
    The Good Shepperd

OK - I guess I have too much time on my hands! Since we are now "empty nester's", both work full time, volunteer whenever we can (and do not like to shop), we're putting our free time to an enjoyable use.

    My to see list:

    Dream Girls
    Freedom Writers
    Pans Labyrinth
    Blood Diamond
    Notes on a Scandal
    the list goes on.....

I just saw Night at the Museum with my 13 year old and his best friend. It was fun and we all found something to laugh about. Just a fun family movie where a regular dad becomes a hero to his son

Just to let you all know, it is not good sometimes to take suggestions from your 13 y.o. Did I say that before? Yup, never learn my lesson. He wanted to see "Snakes on a Plane". DH fast forwarded a LOT. It is going back fast to Netflix.

Night at the Museum we saw the day after Christmas and loved it, loved it, loved it! It was so much fun to see it with the grandkids too.

I rented Gridiron Gang tonight. I could say that it is for my son, but that would be a LIE. I Love to watch the Rock in anything. It doesn't matter if the movie stinks or not. Loved him in the mummy returns and i'm sure i'll love him in this one too.
And, by the way, BMD, i get the IFC and love it too. Always something interesting on that channel.

We just got 2 new ones fom Netflix, Open Season and The prizewinner from Defiance Ohio. I watched Prizewinner but it was a little hard to follow sometimes. I also identified with the wife's distress over her husband's actions, it reminded way too much of my ex. So, if anybody else sees it tell me how it ends as I took it out of the dvd player.

We are going to watch Open Season tonight for family movie night. I do this every couple of months with the two younger kids (11 & 13) and now the grandkids are involved too! God bless our blended family! I make up "tickets" on the computer and buy candy at the dollar store. We alsways have fresh popped popcorn and cans of drinks. It is not every weekend so they all look forward to it.

Saw Mrs Henderson Presents starring the wonderful Judi Dench. It was a quietly serious sometimes mildly funny movie with great acting. I really enjoyed it.
