    GMA- your rose bush said "no, please don't!" But everything needs to be pruned. Did you take the cuttings and put them in a nice vase for indoors? I always think about the song "The Yellow Rose of Texas" when I see a yellow rose. I lived in TX once, it was a popular song.

    Gma, Do you know the name? It's gorgeous. Our yellow-ish rose is The Impressionist but it turns a lot of other colors between bud and blowsy.

    It is another old rose about the same age as the tree rose. Will look for it's tag when I get a chance.

    Good Morning!

    Here is the almost finished permanent garden. 2 gates arrive today for the sides. I have some lettuce work to put in the garage. So far the dogs are staying out.

    I will never replace a timber again!

    Thank you, Bella.

    I did not have the motivation or strength to replace 9 timber beds and realized in another 4 - 5 years do it again.

    With all the rain and delays this took 2 months to finish.

    I appreciate everyone's ground cover suggestions. I am eager for the covers to fill around the stepping stones.

    Nice, Vicki. That looks better than timbers anyway, and no maintenance!

    Jazzy, I love the cactus blooms.

    I am on staycation now till Tuesday so I'm hoping to get some gardening work done. I bought annuals I need to plant. I ended up purchasing pre-planted containers at the local garden store, so now I have extra pots. I decided to plant herbs and veggies in all my other pots. I may try sunflowers in the ground again but my yard is full of chipmunks and rabbits so not optimistic on those.

    My garden guard LOL. On our lightening monitor antenna on top of the roof - She can see both hummingbird feeders from there.

    I love the roses! They do really well here in the southwest, but I have no luck with them myself.

    Lots of pink things blooming this week. Cholla cactus, oleander, pink ice plant, gobs of mexican primrose.

    Have a safe holiday weekend for those here celebrating the Memorial Day weekend here in the US.

    The invasive butterbur confined within our tiny frog pond.

    Daughter had orchid cactus probably well over 12 years and it finally blossomed with 2 flowers on one leaf.

    She almost missed the damn thing.

    picked our first 2 bell peppers yesterday. Lots of small peppers and blooms on the pepper plants.

    See small tomatoes on a couple of tomato plants.

    Zucchini and cucumbers are blooming, too

    Managed to keep the bunnies out of the Brussels sprouts so far. Not so lucky with one of the Lilly bulbs planted a few week ago.

    Asparagus is done being harvested this season. They will now grow into wispy fern looking plants that will get 5-6 foot tall.

    Sun patiens and Gerber daisies are blooming. Love the added colors in the yard. Day lilies are close to blooming.

    DH bought plants yesterday. By mistake he got an okra plant. I have never grown okra. Any hints?

    This little Wren is wreaking havoc with 2 other birds and she is protecting her nest in the birdhouse, I think. The two below are the culprits for her chatter that starts out my home office window at 4:30am. No worries - I start work at 4am.

    GmaFoley ... I am betting on the Wren.

    About birds ... Our Whippet Pit Bull rescue (Bailey) climbed a shrub (yes she climbed it) to find a Robin's nest. The Robin chased her out (thankfully) and we carefully watch Bailey any time she gets close to the scrub.

    The Robin also watches Bailey. When Bailey goes to the bathroom, the Robin waits until Bailey is in full position and then swoops down on her.

    I kid you not.

    Speaking of birds, I came home from being away last weekend for the long holiday weekend and found two fledgling finches hopping around the back yard. I could tell they had probably tried to fly from another location nearby (not good trees for nesting in my back yard), but know if you leave them alone, the parents will take care of them. One was hopping around with its mouth open and clearly looking to to be fed by someone! I finished some watering and went inside and saw there were parents around in the bushes tending to them. They now seem to be gone. Fortunately, I have a pet free yard so when baby birds end up out of their nests and on the ground, they are usually safe in my backyard which is surrounded by a concrete fence (safe, that is unless a stray cat comes wandering through).

    A couple years ago, I had these little cuties end up in my back yard gardens. They too seemed out of the nest and not quite able to fly on their own yet.

    We have an unused TV arial on our roof. It seems to be a prime launching point for crows teaching their fledgling to fly. All day long it goes boing boing. I did get to see the fledgling on the fence. I hope they get thru this phase soon. Getting tired of being pestered in our yard.
