Just had stereotactic biopsy - what are the chances
Hello - I'm new here. 48 y/o that had a routine yearly mammo and then within 24 hours had a diagnostic mammo and US. THe result was suspicious microcalcifications and 2 other “mixed Echogenicity structures", which led to my having a stereotactic biopsy yesterday. I was bi-rads 4. hey didn't do biopsy on the 2 solid nodules but rather the calcs as they didn't seem too concerned about the 2 nods. Anyway the radiologists said 50/50 chance. I've read so much on here that say the odds are in my favor but I'm worried about the other “structures" found in the same breast as the microcalcifications. Am very confused, very sore from biopsy and just looking for any information with anyone in similar situations and what your results were
Thank you!! Patty

Hi Patty! The odds are still in your favor that the biopsy will turn out benign. At 48 - your breasts are most likely going through changes and the solid nodules could be related to that... the microcalcs that look suspicious are what they (docs) seem to be more concerned about. I know the waiting and the "what ifs" are difficult. I am sorry too that your sore, and that probably is not helping the worry...once you get the results - IF, and a big IF, there is more to be concerned about, they will probably address all that is seen in the breast. I know that is how it occurred with me. Sending you comfort Patty! I know this is hard....

Usually, BIRADs 4 is far better than a 50/50 chance. More like 80% chance benign/20% chance malignant. Sorry you're in pain. Try ice packs and keep everything tightened down snug with an Ace bandage wrapped around your chest. Tylenol worked for me pretty well, but you may need something stronger, depending on your tolerance to pain. Good luck.

Thank you for your kind words. I suppose having a sister being diagnosed at 31 with stage 2 bc is of obvious concern for my own situation. She is, thank god, a 9 year survivor! Hopefully my wait will be over soon! I suppose the radiologist gave me a 50/50 because I honestly don’t think he knows where it’s leaning. I went to a very well known reputable cancer hospital so I feel I’m in very good hands! My best to you
