Prometrium and upcoming Mammo - quick question
Hi There,
Quick question (am a member from back in '07 but can't find login and old email addy wont work so had to rejoin)
I have been on Prometrium for about 11 months June 2017 - 200mg once a day. Kyleena since April 2017 (13 months). I just scheduled my mammo for Monday and am wondering (worried?) about any issues being on it may cause. I am large and dense anyway may be a slight increase in size overall since starting.
I have had issues in the past (hence why I was a member) with them following a "nodule" in 2008 - 2009 and a few other things along the way. Am wondering if taking the Prometrium progesterone is going to possibly mess with results / reading of mammo. My clinic uses the 3D Tomo with CAD. I have not seen my breast specialist since starting the Prometrium (appt coming up in July) and am just trying to prevent myself from freaking out in case something gets weird.
Side note - I did ask my breast specialist (amazing doctor in MD that I fly into see) about it (meds) before going on it and she really didn't have an answer as to whether it would do anything in relation to breast health - kind of struck me as ood. I was in such bad shape at that time though I would have done almost anything to not have those health issues anymore.
Thank you for any insight.

No one has any insight? I have been googling for days and can only find one article but not really because they used synthetic progestin in the studies.
Anyone? Thank you!

Hi coffeeaddict, and welcome!
Sorry you haven't gotten a response yet -- things are quiet around here on the weekends. Keep checking back though and hopefully someone will respond to you soon!

Hi,
Thank you! I hope someone might have some advice. I appreciate your time very much!!

My only advise is make sure you stick with the 3d mammo, take a deep breath and relax.
Regardless, it will be ok. Monday will be here soon!

Thank you for the response. I am going to keep the 3D but am now wondering (since I am on the Prometrium) if they find something if I may not be screwed if they do. I am switching jobs (and will have to go through health insurance market place) and am very worried that if they do find something odd and I need more tests of something I may be without insurance.
From what I have read if you don't get screened via state programs then they won't help you (at least in my state) if you if they do find something. I posted a separate thread on it wondering if anyone has any insight on insurance issues and thinking I will have to get calling asap tomorrow morning to see what I can do and will have to probably cancel appt for tomorrow (which I don't want to do as month of May is usually when I get the mammo and see specialist in July). BLEH...
Hope you have a great day!

I am not familar with the insurances in those specific states, however I had insurance through the market place the first time I was dx. This time I waited a couple of weeks so that the biopsy was on my husbands new insurance policy with better coverage.
The only time I had an "issue" with a dx prior to insurance with the market place was for something else. I needed surgery for heaving menstral bleeding however, because I had the issue for years it was a "pre existing" issue. Once ACA came around, there is no such thing as pre existing conditions. I had surgery the month I got coverage through the ACA.
The only thing negitive with the ACA is the rediculas high premiums/deductables. Do you have health insurance now that is "affordable"? If so....I would recomend getting the mammo, if anything is surprising it will help you in deciding what insurance you should get with the posibility of meeting the deductable.

I thoughtt the same thing but looking at the SAGE program appears to NOT offer coverage if you are screened somewhere else ...my appt is tomorrow but am worried if they find something and it needs further investigation the SAGE progran won't help me.
However I have seen other info that says you can apply anyway...so am guessing I'll be on the phone with them asap in morning
I am on the prometrium for heavy bleeding ..it's so far...knock on wood...allowed me to not have to have surgery...for now.
Thank you for taking the time to reply.

To be completly bold, the "cancer card" goes a long ways when it comes to insurance and fianncial assistance. As long as it is "normal" insurance...especially through the ACA...it's going to cover you. It is legally not allowed to not cover issues if they are pre existing. If you are looking at something through the ACA, you are fine. Just get your normal mammo and relax.
-
Thank you! I will keep that appt and hope for the best.
Very nuch appreciate your time!!

Great, let us know how it goes.

Mammo now scheduled for next week - will be posting a new topic post for folks that might be in a similar situation. Basically, I had to go through the Minnesota SAGE program and have a CBE done on this past Wednesday (oddly enough just happened to be with my reg - though new - GYN at the place I already go to).
They actually told me that if I had a mammo done with another insurer or location that was not a part of their SAGE program and they found something I could be turned away and then face all kinds of issues trying to find help. It was recommended to me that I wait and apply for the SAGE program and not have the mammo I was scheduled for. So thats what I did ...and now I wait.
I am grateful to the program but what about the person who has a mammo, loses insurance, they find something and now can't get help through no fault of their own? Seems like a not cool deal to me. Or maybe they should have something in place for situations like that (I was thorough and asked specifically about this situation and they said that someone who was in that boat, "Could apply, but no guarantee they would be accepted..."
Thanks for your help and I am off to wait!
Hope you have a great weekend,
:-)
