Just had my first mammogram

just had my first mammogram. I got a call the next day about a concern area and dense breast tissue. Went in they did a 3D mammogram and then did a Ultra sound on both breast. A Dr did not come in and talk with the but the tech that did. She said that I need to follow up in 6 months bc they believe it’s a cyst but want to keep a close eye on it. Then I read my letter with the words. They think it benign. The words I think do not sit well with me.s

    Why do those words not sit well with you? They estimate whatever is seen has a less than 3% chance of being anything to worry about and they'll look again in six months to make sure it is stable. It is very common since you have no old films to compare to.

    Benign is the word we all long to hear. They can usually tell a cyst from cancer, cysts have smooth edges, cancer does not. Don't over think this, see what happens in 6 months

    I’d give anything to hear my results were benign. Just make sure you do your follow up appointments, watch for any new or growing lumps and see a doc if there’s any changes.
