I had a TUG breast reconstruction last Friday 3/16, and so far my breasts feel heavy and very solid, unlike my previous squishier real breast tissue. Does this change over time?

Is the TUG tissue similar to the other flap tissue when inside the new breast?

most women who have flap surgeries describe them this way right after surgery. A lot of it has to do with swelling. They will get squishier as the swelling continues to go down. I had DIEP but I'd say mine feel like they did when I was 20. Time is your friend!

Is there anyone out there that I can compare experience with?

I just had VUG flap (Vertical Upper thigh flap) reconstructive surgery 3 weeks ago. My thighs are healing very nicely! I had read that the donor site is usually more painful, but I find my breasts are aching more and feel quite heavy! (Although they're probably a bit smaller than my orginal pre-cancer breasts)

I am a fitness buff (worked out in gym 2+ hours everyday, eat extremely healthy before surgery) so I was not a candidate for DIEP or Lat D flap. But I wanted to have autogolous reconstruction for the healthy benefits.

My surgery was at St. Joe's in Hamilton. I am the very first to have this surgery done in Hamilton!

I was the one to originally ask the question. My breasts have gotten much softer and lighter since my surgery. It's now 5 months. I do think some people feel more pain in the breast. My thighs were no more or less painful than my breasts, but I did end up with an infection on the site of my left thigh (after about 5 weeks) and needed a second surgery.

I am finding that it all improves with time. My surgeon was very experienced with FLAP surgery, but more DIEP than TUG. However, his micro-surgery skills appear to have been excellent. I have few hard spots (one in each breast) that appear to be fat necrosis. During my upcoming followup surgery the doctor says he can fix most of that.
