I'm supposed to have a Breast MRI soon to help in a final diagnosis. I've researched for info on having this done as it's a first for me, and I happened to find info on a fairly new procedure called Abbreviated Breast MRI (also called Rapid Breast MRI), which sounds so much better for claustrophobics like me! It lasts less than 10 minutes, which is hardly anything compared to the 40+ minute traditional Breast MRI. There won't be much time at all to stress over the tight space, plus for me no stiff back, etc. And not to mention, it's a lot less expensive. Google it for more info.

I would love to know where I can get this done. I've only found places in Michigan, Minnesota, and Ohio so far and not in my state (Arizona). If anyone knows where this is offered in AZ, CA, NV, or NM, please let me know.

Cant help you with that, but it's good to know there are new options on the horizon. I'm very claustrophobic. The breast MRI was just about the worst part of my workup. Hopefully, I'll never have to do that again!

wish I could give you insight on the rapid breast mri but I had a traditional breast mri last week and it was only about 20-25 minutes tops. I was worried about the tight space also but it helped being face down, I just kept my eyes shut, and to my surprise the mri machine was open at the far end too (I had never had one and I assumed it was closed on the far end). It was not as bad as I thought. Good lick

Same here - no info on newer MRI's. My experience with breast MRI's (2) has been good. They only lasted maybe 20 minutes and being face down makes you much less aware of any confinement.

My MRI machine is not a long tube, pretty short I never got the panicky feeling. The first time I was afraid and they gave me lorazepam. I never required anything after that.

    I kept my eyes closed.
