32 and terrified waiting for biopsy results
Hello all,
I’ll try and keep this as concise as I can. I’m 32 and about 2 weeks ago I went in for my first mammogram and breast ultrasound because I’m high risk (grandmother, mother, and moms 1st cousin all had BC).
My mammogram showed dense breast tissue and my ultrasound showed some cysts and lumps that looked benign (like fibroadenomas) per the radiologist.
As part of my high risk screening I then underwent a breast MRI several days later. I then got called back for a targeted ultrasound where a small (6 by 7mm) round mass with feathered edges showed up that they hadn’t seen on the first ultrasound in my right breast. It doesn’t look like the other fibroadenomas in my breast which scares the crap out of me.
The radiologist said 50/50 on if it’s cancer or not and did a core needle biopsy. This was done on Friday and they said I would hopefully have results back Monday. I didn’t get a call today and am immediately thinking the worst.
On top of all of this my mom passed away on April 18th of this year from metastatic breast cancer at the age of 67 so this all hits so close to home.
I guess I’m looking for some reassurance that just because they didn’t call me today doesn’t automatically mean the worst.
I’m just really terrified. I don’t know how I’m going to get through this if it is cancer or how my poor dad or husband will handle it. My dad spent the last year caring for my mom and I’m his only child. The thought of putting him through another round of this is killing me. Sorry for the long rant.

I want to tell you how truly sorry I am about the loss of your Mother. I hate that you have to deal with this at all. I hope that you get some good news very soon. I think receiving results (or the timing) depends on a lot of factors. I really wouldn't read into that. Please know that we are here for you. This is a very loving and caring community. I will be sending you prayers for benign results.

Kkdd - my condolences on your mother’s passing, you shouldn’t have to go through this worry at this time, so unfair! Try not to worry that you didn’t get a call, that doesn’t mean you have cancer. Results can take extra time for many reasons, some as simple as a staff member calling in sick. You could call to check in the morning and hopefully get some answers.
My diagnosis came on the heels of my father’s death from cancer. It was excruciating telling my mom. Her reaction was disbelief, tears and then quickly changed an amazing strength that I didn’t think was possible. She became my rock. She said it gave her something to get up and fight for and that my dad wouldn’t want it any other way. I’m hoping you don’t have to do the same, but if you should have to, don’t doubt your father’s capacity to put aside his misery for his child’s welfare.
Try to keep your mind from going to the dark side during your wait though I know it’s so hard, especially in your position. We’re here to help you get through and are all hoping your results are clear, keep us posted please! Hugs!

Thank you both so much for your kind words and replies. I got my biopsy results today and I have a “radial sclerosing lesion” which is benign but they are recommending removal since a small percentage of these can hide cancer in the area. So I’m still a bit scared but a lot calmer then I was. Hoping to get that sucker out soon and move forward.

kkddvm - glad you got your results and directionly, things look good. I was going to add that bad news usually gets the fast call
Also, weekends can delay readings. My condolences on the loss of your mother. Hoping that your lesion is nothing more than that.

my sincerest condolences kkddvm for the loss of your mother. I am in a similar position as you as I lost my mom in January to cancer. Having to go through this while mourning the loss of your mom and not having her to turn to has been the hardest for me. I'm glad that your biopsy showed scarring and nothing more serious. Hoping you continue to get benign results. Big hugs!
