Hi ladies! I had a biopsy on Thursday and it's really bothering me. I'm wondering if anyone can tell me what's the best bandages or gauze to use for such a sensitive area? It was a shave biopsy so there is the size about a nickel on my breast. The adhesives on the Band-Aids I've been using are really making it itch bad & have redness but whenever I don't have any bandage there it stings a lot. They told me to use Vaseline but I'm wondering if polysporin would be better. I figured you would know better than anyone else. I appreciate any answers you have! Still waiting on biopsy results but the breast surgeon told me she doesn't think it's IBC. Praying she's right!

Thanks again 😘

You could try using a gauze square and paper tape. My DH is allergic to most medical adhesives, but he seems to be able to tolerate my paper tape & 2x2 bandages. If they told you to use Vaseline, I'd prolly stick with that, especially since it's already irritated. Some people can be sensitive to the ingredients in Polysporin.

I have adhesive allergies too. You can try gauze and paper tape (non stick gauze if the area is draining). If your biopsy site is in an area where your bra can hold it in place you may not even need the paper tape. I did that with multiple incisions/skin biopsies on my breast. Just stick a nonstick pad in there.

Vaseline should be sufficient, a lot of docs are getting away from the topical antibiotics because of rising allergy rates. But polysporin and bacitracin are less likely to be allergenic than Neosporin. But unless it looks infected on the actual biopsy area it should be ok with Vaseline. They want you to use that because it provides a barrier from bacteria and keeps the skin moist for better healing. I Vaselined my shave biopsy site for about a month and it looks great now!

If it looks infected call the doctor.

Your itchiness should get better once you get away from the adhesive!!
