What are you using to minimize your post-surgical scars? Any products that have been particularly useful? Anything to avoid?

Thanks!

I used one package of silicon strips which gave no help. My PS said to use them for three months. Probably not going to do that. He also said to rub cocoa butter on the scars. So that's nice and smells like summer to me.

My PS recommends Biocorneum, a liquid silicone with SPF.

I used silicone gel sheets you can buy on Amazon for quite a while. My scars are thin, flat, and very light. I can't say how much of this is from the silicone sheets, though, as I tend to not scar very badly, anyway.

My PS recommended NewGel+E. Its silicone also. I bought the gel and rub a little on. It seems to be working pretty well.

Thanks for the replies! My PS also recommended Biocorneum, but was curious about other options, since it is kinda pricey. I did buy a small tube, though.

shadie - you only use a tiny bit and it lasts a really long time! I bought my Biocorneum in 2016 and still have the original bottle after four surgeries with this PS, my husband used some for an injury to his nose, and I gave some to my hairdresser too! Just put a tiny dab on the end of your finger and then pull your finger across the scar line, the product has a lot of slip and a really small amount covers a pretty long incision.

Thanks for replying as what I used wasn't very helpful but I'll look for the gels you recommended. ❤️

My derm recommended the silicone that you can cut into any shape. I used them on and off for about a month. I think it may have helped some but the best thing that helped, personally, is using nordic poles when DH and I walk. I think the circulation and repetitive motions really helped.
