I had a core biopsy today. Before the biopsy the radiologist came in to talk to me. He said that due to the tight cluster and that they appeared more rapidity than they liked he was concerned about malignancy. After the biopsy he said that from what he saw he was hopeful it would come back benign. Can a radiologist tell that soon?

Hey! I'm sorry about the stress you must be under. A radiologist can't know for sure until you get the pathology report but I'm sure he can make an educated guess based off of his prior experience. It's still a guess though.

I'll keep you in my prayers and hopefully it all comes back benign and okay!

I’m sorry you’re going through this process, Tprewitt. It’s so very stressful!

As blondiebecca97 said, experienced radiologists seem to be able to make pretty good estimations based on combinations of characteristics seen on imaging. Mine said that what he was seeing was suspicious but he expected it to be benign. He pointed out that only a biopsy can tell for sure. He said that there are times when he tells patients that he’s 98% certain that they have cancer and to prepare for that diagnosis and other times like mine when he thinks it’s most likely benign but can’t say with certainty that it is. None of that reassured me at the time even though my results were benign.

I hope you get good results! I’ll be thinking of you.
