Fiberadenoma Removal

Hello!

My name is Meg and I am 31 years old. I have had several fibroadenomas since my early twenties, and have had ultrasounds and follow up ultrasounds on them. I had two to follow up this year, and a new larger one I wanted to get checked too.

They sent me in for a mammogram since I am over 30, and then an ultrasound. They said the ones I came for follow up on didn't even show up in mammogram because of how dense the tissue is, but the larger new one did. They thought it was suspicious but assured me they thought it was benign, likely a phyllodes tumor, which would then get removed. They wanted me to get a core biopsy, so they sent the results to my GP who got insurance approval and sent an order for the biopsy.

I got my benign results on Monday, and they said it was just a normal fiberadenoma.

Has anyone wanted it removed after benign results? This one is a much larger than the rest (the rest are pea sized, this one is about 3cm), it's always painful or uncomfortable, it's 7 cm above my nipple, and I feel like it has changed my shape, as I can no longer can find a bra that will keep me covered up, as the lump seems to be pulling everything up. It's close to poking out of my skin as well. I first noticed it in December and it has grown since then. I have an appointment to discuss it with my GP on Thursday, and I'm hoping she'll recommend removal and it will be covered my insurance.

Has anyone ever had trouble advocating for removal?

Thanks,

Meg

Wow! Your fibroadenoma issues are extremely similar to my history. I am also the same age (multiple ones in both breasts, multiple biopsies, plus 6 month monitoring) I also have one that is about the same size (large) on the right side. I'm very small..so it is pretty obvious. I have been advised multiple times against removal. Apparently, it could leave scar tissue and may grow back anyway? It seems like they see it as very unnecessary because it isn't harmful. This is just what I have been told. Obviously, I'm not a doctor or anything. However, if it does keep growing and growing- that could be reason for removal. I'm just afraid that they will keep popping up! I really wish they would not!
