Got an ultrasound and waiting for a biopsy
Hey, I'm new here, and I have a lump in my left breast that has grown over the past few years. It used to be small and smooth but now it's quite a bit bigger and has jagged edges. The doctor said it seemed like fibroadenoma but wants to do a biopsy to make sure, which I had scheduled for this Wednesday. I'm incredibly grateful that they fit me in as soon as possible.
I'm young (21) and have no family history of bc so it's incredibly unlikely but I just have a bad feeling about it. The first time I found the lump, I was pretty calm, made an appointment, and it was no big deal. This time, when I felt it, I immediately panicked and started crying. I was just so scared with how it felt and how my nipple on that side seems to have changed over the last few months. It's subtle but all of my doctors have either brushed it off or rushed through the exam and not let me say anything about it. (I kind of wish I had taken some nudes over the past year so I could have a reference photo lol)
After the ultrasound, the radiologist came in and told me what was going on but I want to know specifics and I haven't gotten my report in the mail because the appointment was Friday and it takes 2-3 business days for the report to be mailed. Personally, research helps calm my nerves. Knowing exactly what is going on in my breast helps me to think more logically about it instead of fretting over the possibility of what it could be.
I just needed to vent because I'm going crazy just overthinking things, especially now that the spring semester is over.

Hi blondiebecca, sorry you have to be here, but welcome! You've joined a wonderful, supportive place to vent while you wait.
We know the waiting is truly one of the hardest parts but, if it helps ease your mind, manny many biopsies turn out to be benign, specially at your age. You can read more about this procedure in the following article, from our main site: http://www.breastcancer.org/symptoms/testing/types...
Please, try to think positive, and focused on other things in your life until your appointment and results. And please come back to let us know how it all goes.
Best wishes,

Hey! It's okay and thank you! I really appreciate the support and reading everyone's experience. Thank you! I'm pretty sure it'll be benign.
I finally got my ultrasound results! There are 6 other masses that all are characteristically fibroadenomas, however the largest one has grown to 2.6 cm (from 1.7) and the conclusions say BI-RADS 4. I'm assuming this is just because it's grown so much. Other than that, it's parallel, oval, and circumscribed so, from what I've read, that's really good!
Thank you again for the kind words and support.

Sounds like pretty good news to me! BIRADs4 generally conveys about an 80%benign rate. However, given your young age, my bet is that your cancer risk is far lower than average. Like, around 0.2%. Fingers crossed.

Yeah, definitely! I'm so relieved and feeling a lot better about the upcoming biopsy with definitely knowing my odds. Thank you!

Update: got the biopsy a few hours ago and I'm tender but it was a lot easier than I thought it would be. I'll be getting my results either Friday or Monday at the latest. I'm still feeling good but before the doctor did the biopsy, she said the lump wasn't behaving like the rest of the lumps, which look like typical fibroadenomas and that hopefully it's benign.
Now, the waiting game.
