I am 44.. Hysterectomy at 26 for uterine cancer..

i felt a mass a few months ago and then out of the blue a few weeks ago my breast looked larger, a few days ago getting out of Tue shower my boyfriend and I noticed that my right breast isn't fitting into my bra like the left one. I have no overlies, am not on hrt, no pain in breast, no fever. Should I be as concerned as my boyfriend is? Mammogram is next Friday. I've never researched ibc, but we researched together and now we are more concerned.

my personal advice is to stay off of dr. Google. You can google “toe ache” and “toe cancer” will appear. You’re doing the right thing.. your mammogram is scheduled. Is there any way they could squeeze you in sooner? Put you on the cancellation list?

There are a million reasons why your breast is swollen.. many of those being B9.But until the mammo and possibly an u/s, you will not know.

Sending positive vibes and of course prayers your way. Please let us know the results.

i have the soonest appointment they have. With my grandma, mom and aunt having breast cancer I am more concerned. Mom is only one not deceased from this.

that is worrisome to have such a strong family history. Waiting and wondering are the worst. Try to get some rest, go on a long walk, exercise. Anything to help you get your mind off of it. Even if it’s stsyijg off of this site.. although I LOVE this site because of its members, sometimes I find it all overwhelming. Remember, baby steps. And you’re not diagnosed until the pathology report comes back.

Yes,  the waiting is the worst.  I work fulltime as a front desk manager,  so that helps.  I live on the beach so we walk everyday,  and I have hobbies to keep me busy. when I go for my mammogram, if it is something worrisome will they make me wait longer or will they say something then?

Hi Mandy! I think it depends. Last year I had my first mammo. Everything seemed ok that day. But they called me back to do more tests after They sawsomething. Had more mammo images and an ultrasound on the 2nd visit. Hang in there

Hmmm I'm sorry that you are having all of these symptoms.. waiting is not fun at all..

In my experience, I will get a pretty clear hint or impression from the radiologist as soon as the tech completes the ultrasound plus mammogram. Typically, the tech will disappear for about 30 minutes. Sometimes the tech will tell me everything looks good after he/she has spoken to the radiologist. Sometimes the radiologist will come in and do another ultrasound with the tech. You will also get a report with a score and maybe a biopsy recommendation.

However, some centers may not do that. I guess it just depends on the protocol at the clinic. Keeping you in my thoughts:)

had ultrasound two days ago at ER because my regular dr said it was not cancer and was just an infection.  she also stated that cancer doesn't hurt and that the swelling of my breast is from an infection and would not schedule a mammogram until end of next month.  her nurse came back in and said that  if I didn't want to wait then go to er.  I went nd they did an ultrasound and blood work.  elevated WBC, lymphocytes and monocytes.  Technician asked t I had had a cold or upper respiratory infection,  all while looking in armpit area.  no I have not.  when going over the mass she stated that no that is an infection. Well an hour later in the room feeling all good the dr comes in with another dr.  and slams me with we know this is cancer.  my score is a 5 from radiologist.  now I have a referral to a breast specialist/oncologist. now I have to figure out how to pay for this.  with no insurance I just don't know what I'm supposed to do.

Your hospital likely has a social worker to help you apply for medical assistance-multiple options based on income guidelines/medical bills. It is possible the hospital will charge you for their social worker's time. So your other option is to contact your closest DHS Dept of Human Services office and see what you need to do to apply for medical assistance (the hospital social worker usually turns around and contacts them.) If you are employed, you need to get the paperwork done for FMLA-usually the dr's office has the paperwork for this-but they may charge a fee for paperwork-depending on the size of your employer you might be able to do this paperwork thru them.

I do not know if I am doing this right. Woke up this morning with a dark black and deep red bruise on my breast. It was not sore and as the day has progressed it is hard around the edges. Amount the size of a frozen waffle. I am 50. I have had a stroke so ido bruise easily but wow is this freaking me out. Had a hysterectomy, been in car wrecks never have I had a bruise look like this. I have no insurance and I live very frugally. Son in college. I hate going to the emergency room but I just can not tell you how bad it looks. Also I have a bump like a bug bite on both breasts and I think the one on my bruised breast is leaking. I got to stop typing. Should I go

PWdwhite - you should definitely get this checked out, at ER if your anxiety is overwhelming or call your PCP in the morning and try to get a same day appointment. Changes should always be checked. Be sure to tell your docs receptionist the details so they can slide you in quick if you decide not to go to ER.Deep breaths, this may be nothing more than just bad bruising. Go at very least for your sanity. Please post how it goes, we’re there for you! Gentle hugs!!

I am not a person who gets tears eyed but for some reason your text is making me cry. Thank you and I am going to see how it is in the morning. I have never went on any board like this and you replying back, a stranger, has made me feel better. Thank you. Thank you

Awwww hun, please don't cry...I know it's terrifying when things like this happen but please know that the vast majority of them are benign! More than 80%!! Don't google, that will make anyone cry...all you'll find is the bad stuff. If you have to google use the search term 'benign breast conditions'. Try doing stuff you love, Netflix, ice cream, do your nails, clean your house... whatever it takes to keep busy and calmer! Just don't sit and think about it if you can. Sending positive thoughts your way!

Edited to say: you can post your own thread for even more support by going to the ‘not Diagnosed but Concerned’ board and hitting the ‘post topic’ tab at the top of the oag

I have to pay out of pocket for the initial specialist visit,  then I can apply for medical help.  it is just getting the first appointment paid for. I will find a way,  because I know I can not put this off for even a week.

thank you all,  and I will keep you all informed as to when dr. appointment is and what they say. good thought and prayers for all.

I'm very sorry that you are going through all of this.

I am actually in Boiling Springs..so not way too far away from you. Please check to see if your breast center has any grants. My breast center has a Komen grant that will help ladies who are uninsured or underinsured. It is a lifesaver. I will be praying for you. Let us know how it goes.

    We are here for you.

I do have some savings from tax refund,  thank God that came at just the right time. So I can pay for first visit,  then I am sure they have some programs to help out.  I will definitely look into the Susan Komen grant.  thank you so much for all input.

Mandy, I’m so sorry to read that not only do you have to go through all the anxiety if waiting but to have the financial burden as well, just seems so wrong. I’m in Canada and we have the good fortune of having healthcare paid for. I can’t imagine how awful It must be for you. It’s so sad, cancer tests and treatments should be automatically covered in my opinion. The others have made some excellent suggestions for financial aid that I hope you can get. My best wishes for a clear outcome...hugs!!

That would be awesome! I hate that you dealt with so much confusion and mixed results in the ER. I hope that you will get some answers very soon. Please let us know. Sending you positive thoughts and prayers!

    Mandy,

So sorry you are going through this, especially without insurance. A good friend of mine is in the same situation, and I pray for her, and now you, daily. No one should be denied treatment due to inability to pay.

Do you know the type of BC? If I’m reading correctly, the radiologist scores you at a 5, but what did the biopsy say?

Keeping you as well as all of my breast sisters close to heart.

    We can do this.

so I asked my mother if it just could be bruising and I not know and she said yes. That is what it probably is. So ok it is growing, it is still dark dark red and black. No yellow or blue. A picture I took with my phone look like red dots on it. But now it is getting hard around edge. I have no insurance and I hate the thought of going to the er but if any one of you saw it, well it is scary. I have tried to put it out of my mind but I have a son in college and I am a single mom. I should go. It could be nothing

    Pddwhite,

I'm very sorry to hear about this. Is it possible for you to find a low cost clinic or get in touch with a social worker/apply for some type of assistance? I know several low cost clinics in my area that will charge on a sliding scale based on income. I hate that you would have to even worry about cost or insurance when dealing with a medical situation. Everyone should be able to get medical care when they need it!

Pdwwhite, Kmartin makes an excellent point, have you researched financial assistance locally? I’d be willing to help you resource info online if you want to PM me where you’re located. I also have free long distance calling and could contact any sources I find and let you know what I find. Sometimes it takes the power of more than one to get things moving. I’m not trying to scare or invade your privacy, I just think you need to get this checked, at very least for your peace of mind. Here if you need a helping hand.

PDWWHITE.. Prayers and thoughts.  PLEASE get that checked no matter where you have to get the finances.

Pdwwhite, as scary as this is, DO NOT go to the ER. This is not a medical emergency. It will cost you an arm and a leg if you go there. If you have no access to a physician, you might try Urgent Care. It's still not the most appropriate choice, but it will cost less than the ER and you won't be tying up valuable emergency resources on something best suited to be seen in a doctor's office or clinic.
