Found lump, got tested...

Hello everyone very new here, but I wanted to start a post in hopes that maybe someone could relieve my stress here? I know that's really wishful thinking as no one can actually diagnose what the problem is, but I guess I just needed to put it all out somewhere since I don't really have much of a support system here.

Anyways, I'm 43 & recently found a lump right underneath my right nipple, and I waited for a few months before I actually went to see the doctor about it for several reasons, and I know it's stupid, but one was embarrassment. I only ended up going as it started to get tender, and hurt a bit if I touched it. Doc did an initial check, and told me it could be either a benign mass, or of course a possibility of cancer. She immediately sent me for blood testing and a mammogram.

With tests done, I await the results for the mammogram, but in the meantime all blood tests have comeback and seem to be normal. My question is, with the blood work looking normal, and the fact that it's very tender to touch, should I not worry about this lump in the meantime? It seems some things I've been reading say that if cancerous, the lumps won't hurt, or is this wrong? Anyways, thank you to whoever reads, or may respond.

Hi J43, Sorry to hear you are going through this, and the waiting is always the toughest part. Most lumps or areas of concern turn out to be benign (not cancer), however, it is really not possible for anyone to answer that question. Only the tests, and the medical professionals are able to determine this. We are routing for benign, and happy that you addressed it. Nothing to be embarrassed about!!

Sorry you are going through this. It is just impossible to say - some people have breast cancer that causes pain, some don't. Some people have normal blood work before diagnosis, others do not. The hardest part is waiting for answers.

My best wishes as you wait.
