Post 5 years...check-ups?
Right now we pretty much have a chat anyhow.Nothing diagnostic...would prefer to just not see anybody.
At initial diagnosis with 6cm lump and 5+ nodes I thought I would never relax....but I am over the worry now.

I'm with you - I ready to be done with the cancer business.
That sounds reasonable to just go to your G.P. on regular visits after 5 years.
I just read an article about people stopping their tomoxifen or other hormonal treatment.....on the main page of this site.....I'm wondering if they too - just want it out of their minds.

My oncologist told me this past August, he doesn't need to see me anymore ( I am 2 years out). This kinda worried me, but I have a great surgeon and breast cancer support dr. that said they would follow me and be there if need be. Does this seem strange after 2 years to be discharged from the onc??

Hi Michelle. Here is NS we get dumped back to family drs really quickly after 3 years. I have an execptional Family dr. not only a great phsycian but a great advocate on my behalf. We sat down and discussed what my expectations from her were, what the possible scenarious could develope and how she would handle them. In her words " plan on keeping you alive as long as possible" all dispended with a big hug. I see my BSD yearly. my gynae guy yearly and my plastic sugeon 6ths . So the breasts are well examined. I have seen her in action and no one says no to her .It is certainly less stressful seeing her than going to the cancer clinic .Floss

Hi Carmelle:
CONGRATULATIONS TO YOU!!!
Don't know if you are at PMH or not,
I was onc released me.. at the five year mark
that was it, nothing more he could do for me
Said he can not cure me, only keep it at bay
moving up to seven.. very soon.
How time flies!!.
I wish you well and many more years
Keep warm out there.
Take Care..
Hugs

I see my onc every 6 months for 5 years, then once yearly for as long as I want I'm told. I'm in Ontario, being treated in Ontario.
Question; at 6 month checkups, how many get blood work done. He did it the first time, then said no more blood work. This sends me into a state on panic. I've just had my first 6 month checkup.

Hi Michelle -
Just had my visit at Jurvinski - 4 years post dx. - and I think Judy thought I was you!? She said she was sure I lived near Oakville....funny - likely because of same last name - or partially -
Anyway - just had my 4 year....phew! amazing how things tense up that previous few weeks.
And just in case anyone wondered - you shouldn't take cold-fx!
Found out from oncologist last week - when I went in the fall - the doctor I saw - said it was fine - just don't take during treatment.....well! - I'm guessing she wasn't a breast cancer oncologist.....because the Main Man, himself - said No - don't! However, only problem is, I did! twice in high concentrations....as you know I work with little people and I was trying to wage the germ battle - anyway - what can I do? I feel rather foolish now.
Learned my lesson though....don't take anything, unless I talk to the Main Guy! Just hope I didn't get anything thinking it wanted to grow!
