I was diagnosed with invasive carcinoma with lobular features but told me markers are pending. She said at my appointment Tuesday I will have this review results (responsive to hormones- aggressive or slow growing). This is all new to me and it hit me like a ton of bricks even though I knew something was not right. I moved from NYC to a small town in upstate ny. Thinking of going back there for a second opinion. Is it a good idea to get one? Any and all advice would be greatly appreciated.

MC21- I'm guessing you've had a biopsy, and need to see a surgeon? I'm in upstate NY, Albany. If you're anywhere near Albany Medical Center, there are great breast surgeons. My RO & MO are with NYOH, with MO being from Sloan Kettering. Nothing wrong with a second opinion. Best wishes to you.

I went to Dana Farber Institute in Boston for second opinion. It proved important as they redid my pathology and hormone results changed. I then had another exam done by an independent consultant on slides prepared by my local hospital, which confirmed Dana Farber results.

If you live in capital district area (Albany and surroundings) feel free to send me a private message. I can also share about resources in this area.

Also be assured that despite being so brutal now, things will improve mentally. Hundreds of thousands of women go through this annually and carry on. Some working full time and taking care of young kids. You definitely can do this and will look back at this experience as being a bump in the road.

    God bless you!

MC21...so sorry you have to be here but welcome. I know you will find this forum both comforting and full of knowledge. IMO getting a second opinion at a major university teaching hospital is very important. I would want to make sure their protocol is the same as your local hospital. I feel that where we are treated is a huge piece of this. Good luck and keep us posted.

I felt stronger getting a second opinion. If you can get one, do so.

I am getting a second opinion and feel more confident in this surgeon and the whole center. The whole insurance aspect is a pain.
