Lump or am I crazy?
Hello everyone!
I'm a 26 year old woman with a history of breast cancer in my family. About a month a go I was in the shower and noticed a lump of sorts on my left breast. The same spot on right breast doesn't have that lump so of course I started freaking out. I've googled symptoms and signs and I'm just not sure. I think my anxiety comes from not knowing what a lump feels like. Am I just feeling something normal or not? I have an appointment on may 8th with my primary doctor but in the mean time I'm freaking out! I'm unsure what to do and dont want to tell anyone and worry them if it ends of being nothing. Any advice or support is very much appreciated!
Thanks,
Kalee

Don't freak out at your age your breast are dense tissue and may very well be lumpy so to speak. However if your not sure you should have a breast exam done just to make sure that everything is normal . Even if there is something there breast cancer is generally slow growing so there again is no reason to freak out about the wait time for your appt. I think your doing the right thing by having an exam but please keep in mind it probably is nothing. I know it's hard to keep your mind from going to dark places but trust me when I tell you life is too short. I feel like I wasted time worrying before I was pathologically diagnosed . Once I got my diagnosis I had plenty of time to worry.
Best wishes for you

Kalee5353, indeed, most lumps are benign! But glad you are getting it looked at in any case. We understand how worrisome this can be. Keep us posted!

Don't freak out..the chances are very high that it is a benign condition (cyst or fibroadenoma). These are very common in young women. Your GP should refer you to the breast center for an ultrasound to get it checked out. Sending you good thoughts!

Thank you! Much appreciated.

Kalee, google is awesome and I love it...for everything except the search term ‘breast’. If you google even ‘chicken breast’ it’ll come back with 453,626 pages on cancer. Step back from the google girl! It’ll only terrify you! If you just can’t help yourself use the search term ‘benign breast conditions’. While I totally understand the irresistible urge to google, and your terror (been there done that), you have to keep the stats planted firmly in your mind....chances run close to nothing you have cancer at your age....and that the vast majority of lumps are nothing more than harmless cysts or fibroadenoma. Take a deep breath and use your time doing things you love. Give yourself a mani/pedi while watching Netflix, eat a tub of Ben & Jerry’s,just don’t google...I’m thinking you’re going to be just fine! Keep us posted on how your appointment goes! Hugz!
