Shoulder/Neck/Breast Pain Biopsy scheduled
First, thank you to the Mods and members of this site. For the last couple of weeks I've visited this site and the community boards. Researching things that frightened me and finding things to reassure me. I've been reluctant to post. Maybe from a fear that if I posted here I would be admitting that this could be cancer. Honestly, I don't know what it is. I'll wait for the biopsy to either rule it out or move on to treatment. I do know I'm tired of this constant nagging pain. My left shoulder, left collarbone and back of neck. And the sharp pulling sensations from outside of left breast to my armpit. Sure, stressing about "Could it be?" can account for many manifestations. But my pain and exhaustion was well in effect before I ever new there was a possibility of breast cancer. I'm active in my work and personal time. My job in stage production is physically demanding and I love it. I simply want to do my job at work and home. I want to play with my family. Fishing, swimming and hiking have become too difficult. I want to feel whole again.
Wow! I just realized something. I think I'm venting. I must have really needed that! Well rather than backspacing, deleting and canceling this little venting session. I think I'll leave this right here. Thank you again for what you do. I, for one, am grateful for it.

You mention you are waiting for a biopsy. Did you have imaging that showed a mass or other abnormality? Is there a lump in your breast and/or under your arm?
If your current doctors cannot tie your symptoms to a breast abnormality, I would continue to have them investigated.

djmammo,
I guess I could have mentioned that. I had been having shoulder pain for almost a year. I just wrote it off as getting older and arthritic changes. Something I would grow to live with basically. The pain started creeping into my neck, collarbone and arm. Then I began having lots of, what I assumed was, fibroid pain in my left breast for a few weeks. I regretfully admit I've never been one to do regular self checks. So coming across the gumball sized lump during a shower was a shocker but I chalked it up to a cyst because of the pain and tenderness. Finally gave in and visited my GP. Gave her the rundown of what was going on. She found the lump without my direction and tried moving my arm to examine my armpit. I instinctively yelped and apologized because my shoulder won't move the way she was guiding. She became very serious at this point. Told me I had frozen shoulder and she didn't want to worry me but she didn't like the feel of the lump combined with other issues and my age. I left with several scripts. She really tried to cover everything. A script for routine mammo as I hadn't had one since 2014, a diagnostic mammo, another for US and one more for shoulder xrays. I chose to go with a radiology facility that worked with me in 2006 when I had to have subtotal hysterectomy die to a softball sized teratoma, completely B9, causing torsion on my left ovary. It took a few weeks to get in. During the mammo the tech kept referencing that I had very dense breast tissue and the images were probably going to be hard to read. Radiologist had me wait to see if she would need the diagnostic. She did. Again too much dense tissue but she had areas of concern. They escorted me to xray for my shoulder and then sent to US. My mammo report was incomplete due to dense tissue so referred to the US. It showed cyst at 12 O'clock position, which I fully expected, and hypoechoic lesion with irregular borders at 2 O'clock position. I had no clue that little bugger was hiding out in there. Xray of shoulder showed nothing. Biopsy of lesion at 2 O'clock was advised. Classified as Birad4. Unfortunately my insurance has a good hurry up and wait game. But they finally came through and I have an appt. for biopsy on the 21st. I still have high hopes that these issues are totally unrelated. Shoulder shows nothing but it could be neck & nerves. Right? And from what I understand fibroids can be painful and have irregular edges. Holding out for best case scenario to keep what sanity I have left.

Let us know how it goes.
Also, fibroids are uterine, I assume you meant fibroadenoma? They have smooth edges and are not routinely painful/tender.
-
DJmammo- Yes, you are correct in your assumption. That was simply my ignorance. Maybe even a southern thing. LOL! But thank you for your response even if it doesn't open a wider window to staying hopeful. I'll post results when I get them.

Do you happen to have pain that radiates down your arm
-
Shorty,
Yes, but nothing extends into or past my elbow.

Biopsy preformed yesterday. They changed radiologist on me. But after meeting him and the other techs, I was much more at ease with the procedure. What a great team I had! They worked together like a well oiled machine. Originally I was to only have biopsy of lesion at 2:00 position. Things changed quickly. Another look at 12:00 position. They said it looked like a papilloma. It was covered in tiny cystic areas. So last minute change and they biopsied both areas. Lesion at 2:00 appeared as extremely dense tissue but less concerned with area once they got to it. Whole thing put my mind at ease that it will all be B9. He recommended an MRI for neck and shoulder as nothing was seen on xray and soft tissues like rotator cuff could not be clearly seen on xray. I should have results by mid next week. I'll post the hopefully good news then. And now, I'm going to go cuddle with my ice pack.

hi GoG,
I wanted to let you know that I have had very similar shoulder and neck issues, and the root was mostly in the spine. I had the "frozen shoulder" issue with radiating pain as well as muscle spasm. After my MRIs I found out I had scoliosis and a host of other spinal issues, nothing cancerous, thankfully. Also nothing really wrong with my shoulder, lol. What helped me was rearranging my desk, getting a new chair, starting some mild muscle relaxers, a shoulder cape heating pad (Amazon!). Ice had limited benefits for me, but that is just me.
My main point here is make sure you get your spine and neck checked as well as the shoulder! I hope you feel better soon and get B9 results!

Bellapam,
I will be requesting referrals for MRI imaging of neck, spine & shoulder from GP next week. Thank you for your thoughts, advice & words of encouragement. They are all greatly appreciated!

Glad to help, Ghost! I think you are right about "fibroids" being a southern misnomer. I heard it all my life, referring to the "lady parts". My mom swears she had fibroids in her ovaries, uterus, as well as her breasts, possibly her joints too! 😹

hey I was wondering if you had results back? I'm sorry you are dealing with. I am having the exact symptoms. Going for mammogram tomorrow at a specialist. Hope everything turned out well for yo

Ghostofgallifrey, I'm experiencing a very similar situation to the one you described last summer (except on the right side). Is it possible that you could provide an update on what has occurred with you since your last post last year?
